Making a splash: Wilke finds fun, success in the pool

9-year-old Charlotte Wilke of Monona started swimming as a baby and joined the Monona/Postville Swim Team at age 5. Now, she’s nurturing that love of swimming with the Northeastern Swim Team, based in Decorah. (Submitted photos)

Swimming on a bigger stage has been exciting for Charlotte Wilke. The state competition in Des Moines “felt like the kids version of the Olympics,” she said. “I got to swim with the best swimmers at state and it was a really cool opportunity.”

Charlotte Wilke’s first club season was a successful one. She qualified for state individually in the 50 and 100 free and 50 back, and also competed in two relays.
