Five Central volleyball players are all-conference selections

Five Central volleyball players have earned all-conference honors in the Upper Iowa Conference’s small school division. Brylee Erickson, Katie Royer and Alivia Wiley were named to the first team, while Oakley Armstrong and Ella Frieden were second team picks.

State qualifying meet marks end of season for Central cross country

Payton Stannard completed the state qualifying race in 23:28.6, which was good for 34th.

Jesse Polkinghorn was Central’s top boys finisher in 21st place.

Blair Scherf led Central’s girls contingent, placing 27th with a time of 22:33.8.

Turkey Valley bumps Central out of postseason

The Central volleyball team ended its season against Turkey Valley in a Class 1A - Region 2 first round playoff match-up on Oct. 20. The Warriors came out strong, winning set one 25-17. However, they lost the next three sets with scores of 14-25, 14-25 and 17-25.

Charlotte Meyer was the Bulldogs’ top finisher at the UIC meet. She placed 10th with a time of 20:53.9.

Jude Onken finished 45th at the conference meet, after posting a time of 20:01.2.

Hannah Friedlein (left) was 67th at the Upper Iowa Conference meet with a 26:39.9, while Lilly Becwar ran course best 26:47.6, placing 71st.

Declan Finley placed 36th with a time of 19:26.1 at the Upper Iowa Conference meet.

Payton Stannard turned in a career and course best 23:15.0, which was good for 33rd place at the conference meet.

The Central Warriors ended their volleyball regular season strong last week with two victories. On Oct. 14, the Warriors defeated Clayton Ridge in straight sets with scores of 25-15, 25-14 and 25-15. Then, on Oct. 16, they battled through a five-set match to top Postville with scores of 22-25, 25-10, 25-20, 7-25 and 15-9.
