STATE BOUND: Two Bulldogs battle their way out of tough regional

This will be Bachman's second trip to state. She previously qualified as a sophomore.

Freshman Charlotte Koether is making her first trip to Coralville, after winning a wrestleback for second place at 130 pounds.

Koether said her goal was to try her hardest and have fun. “As I started going further, I thought, ‘I’m glad about where I am. If I don’t move on, I’m happy,’” she said. “I was so scared at the end. I did everything I could. Now, I’m just so happy. I didn’t think I was going to make it to state.”

Bachman is UIC champ at 100 pounds


Kennedy Bachman is MFL MarMac’s first-ever Upper Iowa Conference girls wrestling champion. The sophomore pinned her way to first place at 100 pounds at the Jan. 24 UIC tournament at Central, and was one of seven Bulldogs on the podium that night. (Photos by Willis Patenaude)

Hannah Jacobson was the conference runner-up at 155 pounds.

Ashlyn Blake faces off against Sophia Stone in her 105-pound quarterfinal match. She went on to finish fifth.

Drey O'Brien of NH/TV defeated Bulldog Veda Torkelson in the 110-pound semifinal. Torkelson placed fifth at the tournament.
