PdC stopped by Westby, Dodgeville

The Prairie du Chien Boys Basketball team dropped a pair of road games last week. First up for the Hawks was a game at Westby last Tuesday, Jan. 28. The Norsemen held a 31-24 halftime lead before outscoring the Hawks 30-22 in the second half to defeat Prairie du Chien 61-46.
Two nights later, the Hawks traveled to Dodgeville for a SWC contest against the Dodgers and were handed a 78-65 defeat despite a valiant effort by Prairie. Dodgeville moved to 6-10 overall and 3-3 in the SWC while the Hawks dropped to 0-16 overall and 0-6 in the SWC.

Timberwolves at Conference Duals

Competing at the Ridge & Rivers Conference Wrestling Duals held last Thursday night at North Crawford High School, coach Brad Lange’s River Ridge Timberwolves went 1-4 on the night.
The Timberwolves first took the mat against De Soto, and lost to the Pirates 66-6, getting a forfeit at the 144-pound match. In the six matches that didn’t involve a forfeit, the Timberwolves gave up pins in all six matches.

Prairie girls defeat River Valley

The Prairie du Chien girls basketball team traveled to River Valley this past Friday night looking to bounce back following their non-conference loss to Oregon the previous weekend.
The host Blackhawks gave Prairie du Chien a tough game before the Hawks pulled away in the second half for a 67-47 victory. PdC improved to 17-2 overall and 6-1 in the SWC with the win while River Valley dropped to 10-8 overall and 3-4 in the SWC.

River Ridge boys overwhelm Cassville

Coach Jim Wagner’s River Ridge boys basketball team traveled to Cassville last Thursday night, where they handed coach Chad Infield’s Comets a 61-36 Six Rivers West conference loss.
With the victory, River Ridge improved to 11-2 in league play and 15-2 overall, while Cassville fell to 4-8, 5-10
Though River Ridge held a halftime lead of 31-15, coach Wagner’s squad had trouble scoring in the opening minutes, going 1-of-11 in the paint and 5-of-12 from the free throw line.

Seneca boys have up-and-down week

The Seneca Royals boys basketball team had a real up-and-down week last week. First up for the Royals was a game at De Soto last Tuesday, Jan. 28 in which Seneca jumped out to a 24-3 halftime lead before holding on for a 57-28 conference victory.
Seneca hit the road again three nights later when they traveled to North Crawford. The Trojans defeated the Royals 81-68 loss to remain undefeated in the Ridge & Valley Conference at 8-0. Seneca dropped to 11-5 overall and 6-3 in the Ridge & Valley Conference.

PdC girls wrestle at Richland Center

The Prairie du Chien Girls Wrestling team traveled to Richland Center this past Saturday for the Jewell Invitational and came away with three championships and two third place finishes. 
Placing first for the Hawks were Irelynd Cejka (132-138 weight class), Aspen Gelo (120 weight class) and Rosalie Kossman (100 weight class). 
Placing third for the Hawks were Addyson Claycomb (185-235 weight class) and Hannah Ingham (132-138 weight class).

River Ridge girls drop two games

With a 53-50 victory over visiting River Ridge last Tuesday night, coach Jamie Nebel and her Potosi/Cassville girls basketball team avenged a loss to the Timberwolves suffered nearly seven weeks ago.
With the victory, the Chieftains improved to 4-7 in Six Rivers West conference action and currently sit fourth in the league standings, while River Ridge remained in the third spot, behind Belmont (7-3) and Shullsburg (6-3), but with a league record of 5-5.

PdC Boys grapplers place second twice in one week

Prairie du Chien boys wrestling earned a pair of second place team finishes this past week.
The Hawks participated in a triangular at Waukon last Thursday night with Waukon and North Fayette Valley. Following a 48-27 win by NFV over Waukon in the first dual of the meet, the Hawks took the mats against the Tigerhawks of West Union. Despite wins by Hunter Reid, Mason Hird, Jackson Perkins, Bryce Lenzendorf and Blake Thiry, the Tigerhawks defeated the Blackhawks 40-26.

The Prairie du Chien/Fennimore Gymnastics returned to competition last Monday, Jan. 20, when they hosted the Platteville/Belmont/Lancaster tri-op following a break in their schedule. The Hawks were last in action on Saturday, Jan. 4, at the Mount Horeb Invitational.
