Across the state and here in Boscobel, a growing number of students are participating in the sport of girls wrestling.
Coaches and players credit increased interest to recent changes that allow girls-only wrestling matches. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, there was no standalone girls event for Wisconsin teams, so girls had to wrestle boys to take part in tournaments. As a result, only a few hundred girls took up wrestling as a varsity sport. According to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association, or WIAA, 227 girls wrestled in 2017-18.
