Prairie wrestlers storm back but Lodi wins at team sectional

The fourth-ranked Prairie du Chien wrestling team battled to the end last night in Viroqua at a WIAA Division 2 Team Sectional against fifth-ranked Lodi, but came up short in a 38-33 loss.  

The match started out fast with PdC taking a 12-11 lead after four matches. Lodi went on a run and took the lead 32-18 with four matches left.

Prairie du Chien’s Matt Antoine is in South Korea preparing for his second Winter Olympic games. Matt won the bronze medal in Sochi, Russia in men’s skeleton in 2014. Matt’s mother, Mary, along with nine other family members and friends, are in Gangneung, South Korea, to cheer Matt on. The following are Mary’s impressions so far.

Blackhawk wrestlers 

are Regional Champions

The 2017-2018 Prairie du Chien wrestling team continues to make history. On Saturday, Feb. 10, PDC hosted a WIAA Division 2 Regional for the first time in school history. They also won a WIAA Division 2 Regional for the first time in school history. 

On a day filled with plenty of excitement, the Blackhawk grapplers remained focused with their eyes on the prize. This was something the team had circled on the calendar at the beginning of the season.

River Ridge Dance Team

On Saturday, Feb. 3, the River Ridge Dance Team attended the WACPC State Championship held at the La Crosse Center. The team competed in the Division 5 Pom category and placed 11th in the state for their division.

Qualifying and dancing at state for the dance team is a great accomplishment for such a young group of girls. The team this year consists of two freshmen, five sophomores, and five juniors.

Blackhawks 

beat Hillmen again

Prairie du Chien defeated visiting Platteville 56-51 in a Southwest Wisconsin Conference boys basketball showdown Friday night. 

The win upped Prairie’s record to 4-4 in conference action and 9-9 overall. Platteville fell to 6-2 in the SWC, with both losses coming at the hands of Prairie du Chien. The Hillmen are 14-5 on the season.

Prairie takes down Lancaster to win SWC title

The Prairie du Chien grappling Blackhawks played host to visiting Lancaster in a winner take all dual meet that would determine the Southwest Wisconsin Conference Champion on Monday evening. 

Prior to the start of the meet, all youth wrestlers K-8 were introduced as were past PDC alumni to the wrestling program. The jam packed crowd would not be disappointed in this battle of two state-ranked teams.

Host Prairie du Chien beat MFL Mar Mac 49-40 in a nonconference girls basketball game Tuesday night. 

The Lady Blackhawks improved to 8-9 on the season. They are 3-4 in the SWC and will return to conference play by hosting Platteville on Feb. 2.

ousts WS girls

Seneca ousted visiting Wauzeka-Steuben 69-50 in a Ridge and Valley girls basketball game Thursday night. 

Seneca improved to 10-3 on the season and 9-1 in league play to remain tied for first with Kickapoo.

Wauzeka-Steuben dropped to 10-8 overall and 7-3 in conference action. They are in third place in the Ridge and Valley.

RC girls get past Lady Blackhawks

The Prairie du Chien girls basketball team lost a hard fought battle against host Richland Center on Friday, Jan. 26, with a final score of 50-46. 

The Hawks had seven girls contribute to scoring, with Brytta Sagedahl and Macey Banasik leading with 13 points each. Ella Hager had 7, MaKenzie Knapp had 5, Hope Meyer had 4, and Gabby Ritchie and Abby Feye each had 2.

Prairie boys 

lose to Onalaska

The Prairie du Chien High School boys basketball team hosted sixth-ranked Onalaska in a Tuesday night nonconference tilt.

The game started out close but Onalaska pulled away for a 47-34 win over feisty Prairie du Chien.

Onalaska increased their record to 12-1 overall. They are 6-0 in the Mississippi Valley Conference.
