Top seeded Seneca’s season came to an end Thursday night at Reedsburg Area High School as second seeded Shullsburg won the Division 5 sectional semifinal 68-63 in boys basketball action.

Hillmen end 

Hawks’ season

Fourth seeded Platteville defeated top seeded Prairie du Chien 52-38 in a WIAA Division 3 Regional final to end the Blackhawks’ season Saturday night.

The Hillmen led the Blackhawks 19-13 at the half and then took the second half 33-25 for the win.

Top seeded Seneca beat visiting and fourth-seeded Potosi 68-40 in a WIAA Division 5 Regional final Saturday night. 

Seneca, the top ranked team in Division 5, is now 24-0 on the season and advanced to play second-seeded Shullsburg in Reedsburg on March 9 in the sectional semifinal.

Prairie du Chien gymnast, freshman Kylee O’Kane, competed in the State Gymnastics Meet held in Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday. 

O’Kane finished in 22nd place on the uneven bars with a score of 8.133, her highest score ever.

Sixth seeded River Ridge beat visiting and 11th seeded Southwestern 64-53 in a WIAA Division 5 Regional boys basketball game Tuesday night.

Prairie du Chien cheerleaders are best in Small Cheer Dance Division

The Prairie du Chien Blackhawk Competition Cheerleaders attended the 2017 WACPC State Cheer Competition on  Saturday, Feb. 25. The event was held at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. 

 

The team competed in the Small Cheer Dance Division.  The cheerleaders earned first place, making them the state champions of that division!

Area wrestlers 

at Individual State Wrestling Tournament

Two Prairie du Chien wrestlers and one from River Ridge-Cassville competed in the State Individual Wrestling Tournament Thursday and Friday at the Kohl Center in Madison. 

Prairie freshman Traeton Saint, wrestling at 132 pounds in Division 2, lost 5-3 to junior Tanner Deist (41-11) of Wautoma-Wild Rose in his first round match. Saint ended his season with a 40-10 record. It is the most wins ever by a Prairie du Chien freshman.

Prairie du Chien bested visiting River Valley 64-35 in an SWC boys basketball game Thursday on Senior Night. 

Prairie built a 32-19 lead at halftime and then took the second half 32-16.

Wesley Schwager pumped in 15 points to pace Prairie. Nathan Banasik netted 9 and Jonathan Dyer scored 8.

The Seneca girls basketball team bested visiting La Farge 54-39 in a WIAA Division 5 Regional Tuesday night. 

Seneca improved its overall record to 20-2. La Farge ended its season at 6-18. 

Seneca was 14-0 in conference action this season to win the Ridge and Valley title.

and RR-C, advance to state wrestling meet

Three area wrestlers advanced to the state wrestling tournament following their sectionals Saturday. Traeton Saint and Stephen Ronnfeldt, of Prairie du Chien, advanced to the Division 2 state tournament. Ben Wheeler, of River Ridge-Cassville, advanced in Division 3.
