Orlyn David Chunat

 

Orlyn David Chunat, 91, of Prairie du Chien, died Friday, July 31, at Prairie Maison, Prairie du Chien. 

Orlyn David Chunat was born on Dec. 26, 1923 to George and Lydia (Kuchenbecker) Chunat. He graduated from Wauzeka High School in 1942 and joined the United States Air Force. Orlyn was co-pilot on a B17 named the Lady Alta and was part of the 303rd Bomb Group, 8th U.S. Air Force. On their twenty-first mission, the plane was shot down over Germany. Orlyn was wounded, taken prisoner and considered MIA. He was a POW for approximately five months before the POW camp was liberated by Patton’s 3rd Army.  Orlyn was awarded the Purple Heart.

Charles Frederick Davies

 

Charles Frederick Davies, 84, of McGregor, Iowa died Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Great River Care Center, McGregor, Iowa. 

He was born on Aug. 26, 1930 to William W. and Elsie (McMillin) Davies in McGregor, Iowa. He attended country school near Marquette and Monona High School. Charles enlisted in the United States Army on April 10, 1951, he was stationed in Japan as a Messenger Carrier during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on March 6, 1953.

Donna Walters

 

Donna Walters, 70, of McGregor, Iowa died Saturday, Aug. 1, at Crossing Rivers Health Center in Prairie du Chien. 

MaDonna Mae, the daughter of Clarence and Lucille (Laufer) Davis, was born Nov. 23, 1944 in McGregor, Iowa. She attended grade school in a country school house outside of McGregor and graduated from Mar Mac High School in 1962.

Lester E. Weisensale

 

Lester E. Weisensale, 68, of Prairie du Chien passed away Monday, July 27, at his home surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer. 

He was born Jan. 26, 1947 in York, Pa. the son of Lester and Gladys (Stauffer) Weisensale Sr. He entered service in the U.S. Navy in 1966 and later served in the U.S. Marine Corps being honorably discharged in 1973. He married Janette Belken on Oct. 20, 1973 at the Castle Rock Lutheran Church. Lester enjoyed his work as an EMT for the Prairie du Chien Rescue Squad and was an animal lover.

Charlotte Brown (nee Sawa)

 

Charlotte Brown (nee Sawa), 68, passed away in peace on July 16.

Charlotte was the daughter of Zenon and Lydia Sawa, long-time residents of Prairie du Chien. She was born in a refugee camp in Austria after WWII as her parents emigrated from Ukraine. They settled in Prairie in 1949.

Charlotte graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Prairie in 1964, and then moved to Chicago and later to Orlando, Fla.

Jared J. Winkers

 

Jared J. Winkers, 17, of Cassville, passed away Monday, July 20, at his home due to an accidental shooting. 

He was born on Aug. 4, 1997, in Lancaster, the son of Kelly and Kit (Kelley) Winkers. Jared graduated from Cassville High School in May 2015 and was attending Southwest Wisconsin Technical College in Fennimore working towards a welding certificate and CNC Setup/Operation certification. He had a passion for guns and cars and loved hunting, playing his guitar and his Xbox.

Maria Ann Wenzel, 64, of Prairie du Chien, and longtime resident of La Crosse, passed away on July 20, in Racine. 

She was born on Nov. 19, 1950 in Winona, Minn. to Bruno and Antoinette (Sykora) Wenzel. She grew up with five brothers and two sisters in Chippewa Falls.

George P. Jansen, 51, of Bagley passed away in his sleep at home on Wednesday, July 22. 

He was born July 15, 1964 in Cuba City, the son of George and Cecelia (Hoelker) Jansen. 

He is survived by his mother Cecelia Jansen of Benton, his significant other, Kim Reed of Bagley; his children, George, Corey, Lori and Katie; a sister Vicki Weber of Benton and a grandson Archie. He was preceded in death by a son Benjamin; his father, along with an infant brother and sister.

Lucille Marie ‘Lucy” Eulgem

 

Lucille Marie ‘Lucy” Eulgem, 80, of Madison, formerly of Eastman, died Friday, July 17, at Trinity Senior Community in Madison. 

She was born on Oct. 15, 1934 to Ernest and Lillian (Granzow) Eulgem in Crawford County. She attended DuCharme Ridge Country School and graduated from Prairie du Chien High School. 

Lucy worked at Prairie City Bank and also for the State of Wisconsin in Madison. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison. Lucy enjoyed spending time with her friends.
