Donald P. Cooley

Donald P. Cooley, 77, of Bagley, passed away on Sunday, July 8, at his home on the farm in Bagley with his loving wife Carol by his side. 

He was born on July 23, 1940, in Lancaster, to Allen and Helen (Meier) Cooley, the second oldest of four children. Don grew up milking cows on the family farm and working at the Hazelton Cheese factory. He enlisted in the Army and served in the National Guard for six years. 

In 1962, he married Marcia Moore and had two daughters, Angela and Christine. Marcia tragically died in a fire in 1973. Then, in 1978 Donald married Carol Achenbach and together they had a son Stuart and he became a father to John and Alan Achenbach.

Kenneth J. “Neighbor” Kennedy

Kenneth J. “Neighbor” Kennedy, 89, of East Dubuque, Ill., passed away Saturday, July 7, at the Bell Tower Retirement Community.

Ken was born in East Dubuque on July 25, 1928, the son of Dennis and Rosalia (Thole) Kennedy. He was a graduate of East Dubuque High School, class of 1947. He was united in marriage to Jean Peterson on Sept. 20, 1958, at St. Raphael’s Cathedral in Dubuque.

Sharon Kay Harris

Sharon Kay Harris, passed away June 24, at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse. 

She was the daughter of Louis and Elmira Bemer, born Sept 6, 1941, in Covington, Iowa (near Palo, Iowa). Sharon graduated from Palo High School and later earned her teaching degree from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Sharon remarried to Robert L Harris in 1981. In 1986 they moved from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to the Prairie du Chien/McGregor area and made there home there. While in the Prairie du Chien area, Robert and Sharon operated a taxidermy business for several years. Sharon was a substitute teacher for various local schools. she was also a tour guide at the Villa Louis for eight years.

Craig T. Looney

Craig T. Looney, 34, of Prairie du Chien, died as result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Friday, July 6, 2018. 

He was born Oct. 22, 1983, in Prairie du Chien the son of Timothy and Theresa (Dundee) Looney. He married Lacey Nelson on May 21, 2011, at Pike’s Peak State Park in McGregor, Iowa. Craig was currently working for Nelson Hardwoods in Prairie du Chien. He enjoyed the outdoors and love to fish and camp. Most of all Craig loved his special times with his daughter Coralline.

Janice G. Caya

Janice G. Caya, 82, of Eastman, passed away Saturday, July 7, at the Thornton Manor Care Center in Lansing, Iowa. 

She was born Aug. 30, 1935, in Lynxville the daughter of Eugene and Odean (Bright) Oppriecht. She married Charles Caya on June 2, 1956, at St. Wenceslaus Church, in Eastman. She and Chuck enjoyed their trips out west and were active members of St. Wenceslaus Parish. Jan worked as a beautician and later as a secretary for 3M Company in Prairie du Chien until her retirement. Chuck preceded her in death on June 19, 2017. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Janice G. Caya, 82, of Eastman, passed away Saturday, July 7, at the Thornton Manor Care Center in Lansing, Iowa.

Gary L. Sedlmayr

Gary L. Sedlmayr, 77, passed away peacefully on June 8, after a long illness following a stroke, with his brother by his side. 

He was born in Wyalusing, to Allan and Kathryn (McGill) Sedlmayr. Gary graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1959. Gary was a life-long student, enthusiastically participating in math, science, music and sports in high school, attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison delving into studies of applied math, engineering, physics and medicine and continually reading and discussing innovations in technology and space exploration. 

Gary was on staff at Central Wisconsin Center and Mendota Mental Health for decades, serving as a caring and compassionate aide and psychiatric Care Technician to the many residents and patients at both institutions, retiring in 2011 after 40 years of service.

Jeanette C. Bolin

Jeanette C. Bolin, 68, of Prairie du Chien, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 22, at her home. 

She was born Aug. 26, 1949, in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Joseph and Goldie (Stuckey) LeGrand. Jeanette and her siblings would later spend a majority of their early years with Goldie and their stepfather Donald Sherrick. She married Karlan Bolin on June 30, 1995. Jeanette worked as an underwriter for several different mortgage companies. Karl preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 2011.

Marcus A. Morarend

Marcus A. Morarend, 71, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at his home in Bagley. 

He was the youngest of four children born to Juanita (Blume) and Marvin Morarend, in Guttenberg, Iowa. The family later moved to Gran Grae, where Marcus attended the local schoolhouse. He spent his days working the family farm, fishing, hunting and venturing through the woods. His love of the outdoors became part of him and he shared that love with many family and friends throughout his life. His love of the outdoors also led him to be part of the founding group whom started the local Rendezvous.
