Gregg G. Frieden

Gregg Gene Frieden, 55, of Elkader, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021, at his home after battling lung cancer. Gregg was born Aug. 18, 1965, in Manchester. He grew up in Littleport, the son of Doug and Lerene (Thein) Clinton. Gregg had four siblings, Brad, Colleen, Tracy and Branch. He graduated from Central Community High School, Elkader, in 1983. Following graduation, he worked at a factory in Prairie du Chien, Wis., but found his career working road construction for Fred Carlson Co. Carlson’s changed hands a few times, but Gregg stayed with the company, now called Croell, until he could no longer work in 2020.

Thomas C. Perry

Thomas Coast Perry, of Volga, was surrounded by the love of his daughter and sisters the last days of his life. He passed away peacefully on Jan. 30, 2021, in hospice care at MercyOne Medical Center in Elkader. Tom was born on April 16, 1941, to Louise and Thomas Perry. The family resided in Columbus Junction and enjoyed many fun times at their cabin on the Iowa River.

Allene A. Matt

Allene  Audean (Wagner) Matt, 94, Solon, formerly of Elkader, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021, at the Solon Retirement Village in Solon. She was born Jan. 10, 1927, in Elkader, the daughter of Louis M. and Cordelia (Vorwald) Wagner. Allene was raised in Elkader and graduated from Elkader High School in 1944 and Elkader Junior College in 1946.

Jean D. Ruegnitz

Jean Dorene Ruegnitz, age 89, of Garber, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021, at UnityPoint Finley Hospital in Dubuque. She was born Nov. 28, 1931, in Greeley, the daughter of Joseph and Ruth (Lillibridge) Tinkey. 

Jean was raised and educated in the area, graduating from Edgewood High School in 1950. On Nov. 26, 1954, Jean was united in marriage with Gene Ruegnitz at Trinity Methodist Church in Edgewood, and two children were born to this union.

Jean was a homemaker, but made quilts for church missions and volunteered for many other jobs for the community. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg.

Wayne K. Peterson

Wayne Keith Peterson, age 86, died on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021, at the Elkader Care Center. He was born on June 14, 1934, to Thomas and Mabel (Bergan) Peterson in rural St. Olaf. He attended school at Wagner Township Center School and Elkader High School, graduating in 1952. He was a lifelong member of Norway Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed.

After graduation, Wayne worked on the family farm until October 1954, when he entered the United States Air Force and was accepted into the Aviation Cadet Program in Texas. He graduated in March 1956 as a second lieutenant with a rating of navigator.

John W. 'Jack' Schultz

John “Jack” Walter Schultz, 91, of McGregor, died Friday, Jan. 8, 2021, at Mayo Health in La Crosse, Wis. John was born June 1, 1929, to Benjamin Albert and Meda Marie (Zahn) Schultz in McGregor. He was baptized on June 8, 1930, and attended McGregor Public School.

Deloris C. Morris

Deloris Catherine (Gusta) Morris, 92, of Strawberry Point, formerly of Oelwein, passed away on Jan. 9, 2021, at the Guttenberg Care Center due to COVID-19. She was born on April 13, 1928, in Elkader, and was the only daughter of Elmer and Florence (Seeland) Gusta. Deloris graduated from Strawberry Point High School in 1946 and attended Pitzies Cosmetology School in Waterloo in 1947. On April 26, 1947, Deloris was married to William C. Morris at St. John’s Catholic Church in Waterloo.

Marilyn J. Moody

Marilyn Jean (Standorf) Moody, 77, of McGregor, wonderful mother and grandmother, was taken from this world too early due to COVID-19 on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, at Great River Care Center in McGregor.

She was born July 9, 1943, to Lawrence and Lorraine (Otto) Standorf in Prairie du Chien, Wis. Marilyn attended Prairie du Chien, Wis., schools and later attended the University of Wisconsin in Platteville, Wis., earning a bachelor of science degree.

Bruce A. 'Wyatt' Richardson

Bruce A. “Wyatt” Richardson, 55, Prairie du Chien, Wis., passed away on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020. He was born on Jan. 11, 1965, in Prairie du Chien, Wis., to William and Mary Elgens Ames Richardson. 

On Aug. 23, 1986, Bruce was united in marriage with Teresa Marie Eilers at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien. Bruce was an avid family man and a great outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a NASCAR enthusiast. Bruce was a member of the Bridgeport Fire Department for 32 years and the Eastman Fire Department for five years. He worked at Gencor Bituma for 30 years as a welder and supervisor. Bruce had excellent work ethics and was always there to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors. Bruce will be sadly missed by family and his best friend, Jim Lessard.
