Gwen C. Eilers

Gwen Carole Eilers, 79, of Luana, died Friday, July 23, 2021, at Northgate Care Center, Waukon. Gwen was born May 3, 1942, in Palmer, Alaska, to Carl and Edithbelle (Heller) Wilson. From Palmer, the family moved to Fairbanks, Alaska. In 1954, Gwen's parents, her and her two brothers, Rocky and Terry, moved to Chena Hot Springs, travelling through wilderness and over mountains. She and her brothers were homeschooled by Edithbelle for a time. Gwen went to high school in Fairbanks and graduated from there.

Terry F. Kaber

Terry F. Kaber passed away at his home away from home, Brookdale Memory Care in LaCrosse, Wis., on July 22.  Terry was born on Sept. 21, 1938, in Prairie du Chien, Wis., to Clifford F. Kaber and Orpha V. (Valley) Kaber. His elementary school years were concluded at St. John’s Catholic School; he graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1956 and Wisconsin State College (now UW LaCrosse) in 1961.

Elaine K. Syverson

Elaine Kathryn Syverson, 97, of Elkader, died Monday, May 4, 2020, at MercyOne Medical Center in Elkader. Elaine was born Sept. 22, 1922, to Archie and Elsie (Roeder) Martin in Clayton County. She graduated from Elkader High School and attended Elkader Junior College. She proudly joined and served in the United States Marines Women’s Reserve from July 15, 1943 to Aug. 22, 1946, being honorably discharged at the rank of technical sergeant.

Duane Charles Tieden, the son of Raymond and Mildred (Gottschalk) Tieden, was born May 26, 1931, on the family farm in Clayton County, and died July 20, 2021, at approximately 6:30 a.m., at the age of 90 years, one month and 24 days, at his home.

Dennis Edmund Keppler, 75, of rural St. Olaf, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at Mercy One in Elkader. He was born July 4, 1946, in Oelwein, to Irvin Joseph and Florence Angeline (Ries) Keppler. Dennis attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Oelwein.

Larry G. Schuety

Larry G. Schuety, 73, of Aurora, passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Hospice on Tuesday, July 6, 2021. He was born Sept. 10, 1947, at home in rural Elkader, to Fred C. and Alice Alma (Lahrs) Schuety. He was the youngest of seven children. Larry graduated from Central Community High School in 1965.

Jimmy 'Cowboy Jim' W. Reneau

Jimmy “Cowboy Jim” Wayne Reneau died peacefully in his home in McGregor, on the morning of Sunday, June 27, 2021. He is remembered by his many friends and neighbors of the Prairie du Chien, Marquette and McGregor area. A celebration of his life will take place at the shelter by the river in McGregor on the afternoon of Aug. 1. All are invited.
