Shirley Guyer

Shirley Jean Guyer, 79, of Luana, passed Jan. 14, 2020. She was born Sept. 29, 1940, to Henry Paul William Mueller and Viola Clarice (Thompson) Mueller. Shirley went to a one-room country school near St. Olaf for kindergarten through sixth grade. She attended seventh through 12th grades at the Luana High School and graduated in the class of 1959. 

Shirley married Harold LeRoy Guyer on Oct. 5, 1963. After marriage, she lived on a farm near West Union as a farm wife, then moved back to her home farm by Luana in 1971. She worked a summer at the Elgin Corn Factory, and also loved working at the McGregor Ceramic Shop for 17 years before retiring in 1995.

Jacquelyn Lamb

Jacquelyn June Lamb, 93, of Farmersburg, passed away in her home on Jan. 6, 2020.  

Jackie was born Jan. 10, 1926, to Fred and Olga (Becker) Ferguson.

She attended Pleasant Ridge School and graduated from McGregor High School in 1943. She went to Chicago to work, and met and married Kenneth Lamb in April of 1947. They lived in Chicago until 1950 when they moved back to the McGregor-Marquette area. In 1956, she began working at Effigy Mounds National Monument, retiring in 1986. Jackie was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. She served as the president and sang in the choir. She was also a member of Pocket City American Legion Auxiliary for over 60 years. She loved to knit for everyone. She and Kenny especially enjoyed their retirement years camping in Texas.

Judith Ann Rodenberg

Judith Ann Rodenberg, 80, of Marquette, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2020, at Gundersen Health Systems in La Crosse, Wis. Judith Ann was born Nov. 13, 1939, to Alfred and Alice (Carlson) Siegele in McGregor. She graduated from McGregor High School.

Judith was united in marriage with Frank Rodenberg on June 1, 1957, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in McGregor. Five children were born to this union. Judy worked at McGregor Electronics for many years.

Roselyn Krueger

Roselyn (Rosie) Anita Krueger, 78, of Monona, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019, at Great River Care Center surrounded by her family. Rosie was born on Nov. 28, 1941, to Merle and Helen (Kraft) Clark in Oelwein. She graduated from Valley High School in 1960. She met the love of her life, Ivan Krueger, during this time when they met at the Strawberry Point roller skating rink and he asked to tie her roller skates. They were married on Nov. 19, 1960, and began their life together. Five children were born to this union.

Justin Reuter

Justin Kenneth Reuter, 30, of McGregor, and formerly of Bloomington, Wis., passed away peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2019, at the Guttenberg Hospital following his courageous battle with cancer. 

He was born Dec. 21, 1988, as Justin Kenneth Lange to Diane Lange, and later became Justin Reuter when Diane married Cory Reuter in 1993.

Neil Hallberg

Neil Hallberg, 73, of Center Point, formerly of McGregor, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2019, at the Veteran’s Hospital in Iowa City. He was born April 3, 1946, in McGregor, to Henry and Marie (Bachtell) Hallberg. Neil was baptized July 14, 1946 and confirmed Aug. 26, 1962. He graduated from Mar-Mac High School in 1963. Neil served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967. He served in Viet Nam.

Neil moved to Center Point, and was employed by Downing Box, later known as Longview Fiber, where he retired after many years. He was an avid bowler for years. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes basketball and football teams and his St. Louis Cardinals baseball games. Neil loved playing cards.

Dorene Larson

Dorene Dorothy Larson, 81, of McGregor, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019, at MercyOne Hospital in Dubuque. Dorene was born April 5, 1938, to Frederick and Florence (Meier) Becker on the family farm in McGregor. She attended Giard Country School and graduated from Monona High School. Dorene worked for REC in Postville before she was united in marriage with Harry Larson on Nov. 22, 1963, at Giard United Methodist Church in Giard. They moved to California while Harry served in the Navy. While in California, their first son was born. In 1965, they moved back to Iowa, where Harry and Dorene had three additional children. Dorene enjoyed being a farm wife and homemaker, and enjoyed cooking, baking and helping in the fields. She sold Tupperware and worked as a cook for the Mar-Mac Schools.

Robert Cardin

Robert Lee (Bob) Cardin, 82, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at his home in Kerrville, Texas, with his family at his bedside. He was born in a house in Marquette, to parents Miles and Harriett Cardin on June 21, 1937. He married the love of his life, Judith Anne Risdon, on June 21, 1958, in Independence.

Bob went to school at Mar-Mac in McGregor. He started working at the age of 14 on his uncle’s farm, and, at age 16, began working at the Strand Theater running the movie projector to earn money for basketball shoes. He also worked at Hipps Auto Garage in Prairie du Chien, Wis., until he graduated from Mar-Mac High School in 1955.

Adeline Hammel

Adeline Maxine Hammel, 93, of McGregor, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2019, at Great River Care Center, McGregor. Adeline Maxine was born Jan. 22, 1926, to George and Mildred (Lamphere) Ingles at home in Lodomillo Township, Littleport. She attended country school in Mays Prairie in Waterville.

In her younger years, Adeline worked as a waitress at Indian Isle for many years. Adeline also worked at 3M in Prairie du Chien, Wis. She loved to travel, read and play cards.
