Helen M. "Helly" Gritzner

Helen Mae “Helly” Gritzner, 78, of Elkader, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2023, at her home in Elkader surrounded by her family. She was born on May 19, 1945, in Red Wing, Minn., the daughter of John and Marie (Heimberg) Buhler. She was raised and educated in Pine Island, Minn., and was a 1963 graduate of Pine Island High School.

Dean A. Hallberg

Dean Allen Hallberg, 77, of McGregor, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Harmony in Dubuque. He was born Feb. 9, 1946, to Otto Elmer August and Merriel Jenetta (Johnson) Hallberg in McGregor. He graduated from Mar Mac High School in 1963. Dean served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968 during the Vietnam War.

Gerald 'Jerry' Ostrander

Gerald “Jerry” Ostrander, 75, of Prairie du Chien, Wis., passed away Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis. He was born May 17, 1948, in Prairie du Chien, to Bobbie Jack (Bob) Ostrander and Betty Kramer. After his graduation from Prairie du Chien High School in 1966, Jerry enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving as a security police and sentry dog handler from 1966 to 1973, during the Vietnam War. He served two consecutive tours in Ubon, Thailand and Phuket, Vietnam. In total, he proudly served 11 years with the United States Air Force.

Daryl D. Engelhardt

Daryl D. Engelhardt, formerly of Rochester, Minn., Sun City West, Ariz., and Hailey, Idaho, peacefully passed away in Twin Falls, Idaho, on April 2, 2023. He was born in Luana and was the eldest of six children. Growing up on a farm, Daryl worked tirelessly feeding the hogs and chickens, cutting firewood and enjoying his passion for squirrel hunting. His love for swimming began at Rabbit Lake, which became an integral part of his life.

Colleen A. Darby

Colleen A. Darby passed away March 24, 2021, at the Carroll Center Nursing Home in Sarasota, Fla., after a short illness. She was born Nov. 22, 1927, to parents Charles and Elda Obermeier in Charles City. Colleen was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church, and her faith and belief in God sustained her throughout her life and was a great blessing to her.

Thomas J. Kautman, 84, of McGregor, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on June 27, 2023. A celebration of life memorial luncheon was held July 8, at Huckleberry’s Restaurant in Prairie du Chien, Wis.

Leslie 'Les' L. Ambrose

Leslie “Les” Lee Ambrose, 79 of Monona, passed away peacefully on the family farm on Thursday, July 6, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 27, 1944, to Vincent and Beatrice (Nichols) Ambrose in Monona. Leslie graduated from MFL High School, Monona. He joined the United States Army in 1966 and was honorably discharged.

Charles B. McClintock

Charles Bruce McClintock, 85, of Elgin, passed away Monday, July 3, 2023, at his home. Charles was born May 18, 1938, to Claude and Mary (Kassler) McClintock in New Lexington, Ohio. He graduated from New Lexington Public Schools in 1956. Charles proudly joined and served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1960.
