Linda Marie (Kress) Hertenstein, 66, of Guttenberg, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024, at Zearing Health Care in Zearing. 

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 27, at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellevue. Family will greet friends 10 a.m. until service time at the church. 

Arrangements were handled by Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Bellevue.

Wayne Allen Thiese, 90, of Guttenberg, passed away Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024, at Guttenberg Care Center.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg. Funeral services will commence at 11 a.m., conducted by Pastor Mike Ashman. Burial will follow at Guttenberg City Cemetery.

Trudy R. Vogt, 68, of Guttenberg completed her life journey on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024, at Guttenberg Care Center.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 27, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Guttenberg. 

Funeral services will commence at 11 a.m. with inurnment to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Guttenberg.

Duane H. Sobaski, 70, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Washington, passed away Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.

Duane requested cremation and a celebration of his life, with no tears. The celebration open house will be held Saturday, Jan. 27, from 1-4 p.m. at Copper Creek Ridge, 1182 Commercial Drive, Riverside. A second celebration of life will be held at the Guttenberg Golf Course at a date to be determined.

Ann Katherine (Sullivan) Powers, 91, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 28, 2023, surrounded by her family.

Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 5, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Hiawatha. Visitation was before services at the church.

Burial will be at a later date at St. Clement’s Cemetery in Dunlap, Ill.

Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 30, at the church, conducted by Rev. John Haugen.

Francis “Fritz” Berns

Francis “Fritz” Berns died on Dec. 9, 2023, after a long and full life.

He was born Dec. 18, 1931, on the family farm outside Garnavillo, to Anton and Elizabeth (Wolter) Berns, the youngest of eight children. Several years after graduating from high school he enlisted in the Air Force. Once basic training was completed in 1953 at Parks Air Force Base in Haywood, Calif., he continued on to advanced individual training at Lowry Air Force Base in Aurora, Colo.
