SPECIAL COLLECTION RESULTS ARE IN

The results from a special deer collection authorized last month by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources are in and there’s good news for Clayton County: No signs of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) were found in the 90 samples submitted for testing. Allamakee County did not fare as well: One sample collected there tested positive for CWD; another sample is going through a second round of testing after coming back “suspected positive.”

Vets, staff donate to new facility

The veterinarians and staff at Elkader and Strawberry Point Veterinary Clinic have donated $5,000 to the new Swine and Sheep Complex at the Clayton County Fairgrounds. 

“We view this as an investment in the youth of this county and to their futures in agriculture and as productive citizens,” said Ryan Royer DVM, co-owner of the clinics.

CCH OWNERSHIP IS CHANGING

A letter of intent has been signed that enables Mercy Health Network (MHN), Dubuque, to acquire the hospital. The official change of ownership is set for July 1, 2018.

A belated holiday present - Vietnamese students send greetings


Central student Haley Frieden puts the final touches on a holiday card she completed before the winter break. Local students sent cards to schools in Ohio, Spain and Vietnam.

When Central 7th graders returned to the classroom after the winter break, they found a belated Christmas greeting waiting from them. The students had received a stack of holiday cards from a group of Vietnamese students. The greetings were sent in response to cards the Central group sent to halfway around the world in mid-December.
