Erica Jane Harstad, 58, of Elkader, daughter of Don and Mary (Niemeyer) Harstad, died Dec. 19, 2024, at Allen Unity Point Hospital in Waterloo, after years of coping with diabetes and renal failure.

Joan Strauss

Joan Strauss, 76, of Elkader, passed away Monday, Dec. 9, 2024, at her home. Joan Lucille (Blom) Strauss was born on Jan. 20, 1948, as the first child to Dick A. and Pauline (Bruxvoort) Blom in Adrian, Minn. Growing up with her three siblings on the family farm outside of Leota, Minn., Joan developed a deep love for music and a talent for playing the piano.

Keystone Park closed after engineering report finds safety concerns

First of McGregor paranormal episodes will be unveiled at premiere event

Adrian Lee (center) and his team led a series of paranormal investigations in McGregor over the summer, including a stop at The Left Bank Shop and Gallery. The first of seven TV episodes about the investigations will premiere Thursday, Jan. 9, at Backwoods Bar and Grill.

View the first episode in a seven-part series on the paranormal investigations conducted in McGregor over the summer at a premiere event at Backwoods Bar and Grill.

The premiere will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, and is free to attend. People are encouraged to arrive early to order food and drinks.

The first episode will focus on McGregor’s river pirates, according to author and psychic Adrian Lee, who led the investigations with his “Unscripted Paranormal” team.

“There’s more going on in town than just pirates, but it just so happens, if you want to sell a TV series, pirates are quite popular,” Lee shared.

Father Paul R. Peters was born Oct. 18, 1936, in Fairbank, to Leo and Vera (Preble) Peters. His amazing gift of music began on the lap of his grandmother as she showed him how to chord music as a little boy. At a very early age, he had an ear for music. The Sisters of the Presentation who taught music at Immaculate Conception School helped him develop his love and God given talent.

Tschirgi retiring after long career in law enforcement
