Owen L. Moser

Owen (Odie) L. Moser, 69, of La Crosse, Wis., passed away Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, at the VA Medical Center in Tomah, Wis.

Memorial service will be Thursday, Sept. 29 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, followed by interment at the Guttenberg City Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service.

Angeline Berns

Angeline Berns, 87, of Garnavillo, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2016, at the Guttenberg Care Center.

Visitation was Thursday, Sept. 15, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Garnavillo, and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Friday, Sept. 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Garnavillo, conducted by Rev. Marvin Bries.

Interment was at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Garnavillo.

Mark Meyer

Mark Meyer, 60, of Colesburg, died Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital in Guttenberg.

Visitation was Monday, Sept. 12, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 13, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Shane Anderson.

Interment was at Bethel Cemetery, Colesburg.

Great weather creates successful River Park Cruisers car show, cruise and dance Saturday

The River Park Cruisers had 202 classic cars registered in the 19th annual event on Saturday, Sept. 17. Cars came from East Moline, Ill., Galena, Ill., Rochester, Minn., Clear Lake, Cedar Falls, Waterloo, Sumner, Dubuque, Manchester and Des Moines, and many towns in between.

Eilers honored with ride for vets

The roar of many engines echoed through Guttenberg last Saturday as the sixth annual Silly String ride pulled into town. The group of motorcycles and accompanying vehicles parked side-by-side, nose to tail in the street on the closed 500 block of South River Park Drive. A DJ at the Dam Bar played patriotic tunes while tickets were sold for a patriotic raffle and community members joined the group to honor local veteran Adam Eilers.

City bridge, RR crossing on council agenda

At the regular monthly meeting on Sept. 12, the Guttenberg city council moved forward on the Garber Road bridge replacement project, closed the Pryam Street railroad closing, and discussed the possibility of licensing of cats.

Mayor Pro Tem Steve Friedlein presided in the absence of Mayor Russ Loven. Councilmembers Jane Parker, Virginia Saeugling, Fred Schaub, and Austin Greve were present, along with Assistant City Manager Jamie Blume and City Attorney Michael Schuster.

The festivities in Rio may have ended, but the Olympic spirit is still alive in one Guttenberg family. The Elsingers held their family reunion this summer with yet another unique, themed party that has come to characterize their gatherings. In attendance were Marge Elsinger of Guttenberg and her children, Gina Dahlstrom-Osburn, Steve Elsinger and Jody Dahlstrom of Guttenberg, Leslie Schmelzer and Angela Spickerman of Maquoketa, Renee Burns of Strawberry Point, Lonnie Dahlstrom of Dubuque, and Cheryl Steadman of Virgina, as well as honorary sibling Jenny Elsinger of Georgia and significant others, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
