James E. Niemeyer, 83, of Guttenberg, died on Friday Feb. 3, 2017, at his home in Guttenberg.

Visitation was before services at the church.

Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 6, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Marvin Bries.

Interment was at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Guttenberg.

Kathyrn M. Borcherding, 75, of Guttenberg, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, at the Elkader Care Center. 

Visitation was Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Thursday, Feb. 2, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Shane Anderson.

Interment was at Guttenberg City Cemetery.

H. Dean Stegen, 86, of Strawberry Point, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, at The Strawberry Point Lutheran Home. 

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 9, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Strawberry Point, and also one hour before services at the church on Friday. There will also be a 7 p.m. Masonic Service on Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 10, at the Mission In Christ Lutheran Church (held at the United Methodist Church, Strawberry Point), conduced by Pastor Gary Burkhalter.

Williard “Bill” F. Hohensee, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, at Cottage Grove Place.

Visitation was Friday, Jan. 27, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 28, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Pastor Michael Erickson. 

Burial with military honors was at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Muriel Ann Roquet, 79, of Elkader, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017, at the Elkader Care Center. 

Visitation was Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall, Elkader.

Funeral services followed the visitation.

Sheriff's Office partners with state to expand drop-off sites

Clayton County Sheriff Mike Tschirgi has announced the placement of a permanent medication dropbox located in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office at 22680 230th Street, St. Olaf.  

Sheriff Tschirgi said the drop box is made possible through a small grant from the Governor’s Office of Drug Control Policy to address the increasing problem of prescription drug abuse.  The drop box will be accessible to the public during normal business hours

For those who endure it here at home, the Clayton County Secondary Roads department keeps car travel as safe as possible by maintaining 1,050 miles of roadway – a daunting task during a snowstorm.

Superintendent Shane Wahls answered some tough questions during a series of public meetings about the Feb. 7 PPEL (physical plant and equipment levy) vote, which if approved would provide the Clayton Ridge School District with an additional of $2.5 million over the next ten years earmarked specifically for building maintenance.
