Willard R. “Bill” Marshall

Willard R. “Bill” Marshall, 86, of Bagley, passed away Saturday, Feb. 7, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien.

He was born Aug. 11, 1928 the son of Lee and Esther (McQuistion) Marshall. Bill was drafted in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed at Dubuque Packing Company and also operated the Bagley Hotel from 1966 to 1998. He was an antique dealer and had a shop in Bagley. Bill enjoyed a good game of euchre, polka dancing and Irish music. He was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons and the Liscum Brothers American Legion Post No. 482 of Bagley.

Donna Mae Adams

Donna Mae Adams, 82, of Garnavillo, Iowa, died Friday, Feb. 6, at Guttenberg Care Center.

She was born on May 24, 1932, the daughter of Elmer and Lucille Knapp. Donna was raised in the McGregor area and received her education from the McGregor Schools. On Jan. 23, 1950, Donna was united in marriage with Stanley John Adams in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Donna was a wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and an aunt to many nieces and nephews. She spoke fondly of working in her father’s café “The Mallard” in McGregor during her teenage years. She also worked with her husband at “Stan’s Boat Landing” in Clayton for many years.

Seneca tops Wauzeka-Steuben

Seneca bested visiting Wauzeka-Steuben 66-43 in a Ridge and Valley boys basketball clash Friday night.

Seneca led 15-11 in the opening stanza and increased the lead to 31-22 at the half.

The Indians kept the momentum to take the second half 35-21 en route to the victory.

Members of the McLenehan clan of Iowa and Janesville, Wis. hold up the lone finny that they had hauled in to that point on a warm Saturday morning on Gremore Lake, a largemouth bass caught on a minnow. Everyone on the lake was in good cheer throughout the event.

Local RadioShack franchise unaffected by the corporation’s Chapter 11 filing

A recent announcement by RadioShack Corporation regarding reorganizing the company through a Chapter 11 filing may have the public wondering about the status of the Prairie du Chien RadioShack. But, according to Owners Roger and Marlene Dyer, there is nothing to worry about locally.

RadioShack Corporation represents only the company-owned stores. These company-owned stores are mostly located in larger regional and metropolitan population areas, such as La Crosse and Madison. These types of stores are the only ones that may be affected by the Chapter 11 filing.

New equipment donated for Hoffman Hall pool in memory of local man

Six new benches made of recyclables now grace the pool deck at Hoffman Hall, thanks to a generous donation in memory of the late Jim Coorough, who passed away last August. A basketball hoop and volleyball nets for the pool were also purchased with the donation, and the remainder of the $6,000 gift has been added to the Hoffman Hall Improvement Fund. The state-of-the-art pool at Hoffman Hall recently received a few new additions, thanks to a donation in memory of the late Jim Coorough, a native of Prairie du Chien, an Army veteran and a retired Wolf Machine Shop machinist. Jim and his wife, Pat, have been active members of Hoffman Hall for years. After his passing in August 2014, Pat and the Coorough children contributed a memorial of almost $6,000 so that six benches, a basketball hoop and volleyball nets could be purchased for use in the pool area. A portion of the gift has been placed in the Hoffman Hall Improvement Fund as well.

“The pool was more or less our entertainment,” Pat stated. “We came nearly every day. We met a lot of good friends.”

Prairie du Chien woman pursuing her dream in Nashville

Prairie du Chien native Chellanie (Adams) Grunwald has been pursuing her dream in country music for a decade.

Since she was a little girl growing up in Prairie du Chien, Chellanie (Adams) Grunwald has wanted to become a singer. These days, she’s paying her dues in the country music capital of the world and, after 10 years there, is pleased with her progress. She’s songwriting frequently, playing clubs and honky tonks in Nashville regularly, is recording a new album and is continuing to work her way up in the music business.

“There are so many musicians and everybody is fabulous,” Chellanie said. “It’s very hard sometimes, hence the day job, but it’s a dream and you have to work at it.”

After graduating from Prairie du Chien High School in 2000 and UW-Platteville in 2005, Chellanie moved to Nashville, where she integrated herself by waiting tables during the day and singing at night. Now, she spends her days working as a loan processor in the mortgage business. Then, she plays live one or two times per week at songwriters’ nights.

David J. Redman

David J. Redman, 65, of Prairie du Chien passed away in his sleep Thursday, Feb. 5, at home.

He was born May 1, 1949 the son of Mearl and Esther (Mindham) Redman. He married Mary Ann Morgan on Aug. 3, 1968 at St John’s Church in Patch Grove. Dave was well known in the area as a beer salesman and deliveryman. He worked for Prairie Beer Distributing in Prairie du Chien for over 30 years. He was an avid hunter and belonged to the Prairie Rod and Gun Club. Dave was very proud of his recent baptism into the catholic faith and his membership at St. John’s Parish.

Judy L. (Nugent) Kay

Judy L. (Nugent) Kay, 68, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Sunday, Feb. 1, at her residence in Atlantic.

Judy was born Oct. 10, 1946, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Gerald and Betty (Okerlin) Kay. She grew up in Atlantic and graduated from Atlantic High School. Judy attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and received her Master’s in Psychology from the University of Colorado. She was a school psychologist for the Prairie du Chien, school district for 27 years. She also was a school psychologist for the Atlantic schools for 10 years.
