A few years ago, blood donations nationwide were so low that serious shortages were predicted. While the supply is steadier today, donating blood remains an important cause, which is one of the reasons that Central students are backing a local blood donation effort.

Lorenz Landt

 

Lorenz Herman Landt, 88, of Luana, Iowa died Thursday, March 12, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Center, Postville, Iowa. Lorenz was born on the family farm in Luana on July 9, 1926 to Herman Henry and Alvina Anna (Mueller) Landt. He was baptized on October 27, 1926, and confirmed on March 29, 1942, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, Iowa. Lorenz received his education at Luana Consolidated School.

School upgrades, $6 million needed for improvements

A $6 million bond referendum for improvements to the Central School building could go before voters as early as June 30. If it passes, work at the school could start in 2016 with completion of the project following in about 36 months.

Ilaverne Breitsprecher

 

Ilaverne A. Breitsprecher, 89, of Onalaska, WI and formerly of Merrill, WI, died Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.

She was born August 12, 1925, in Froelich, IA to Arthur and Anna (Hamann) Seeland. Ila attended and graduated from Monona High School, Monona, IA. She then attended business college in Davenport, IA, graduating with an associate’s degree.  On April 12, 1951, Ila married Lloyd Breitsprecher in Monona, IA, and they celebrated 63 years of marriage this last April. On September 9, 2014, Lloyd preceded Ila in death.

Vera Rahmiller

 

 

Vera Oldfather Rahmiller, 101, of Gladstone, Missouri (formerly of Volga, Iowa), died Friday, January 23, 2015.

A Celebration of Life Service for Vera Rahmiller will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the Volga United Methodist Church. A private internment was held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Volga, Iowa.  Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Timothy Troester

 

Timothy Raymond Troester, 43, died on Monday, February 16, 2015 at Crossing River Health in Prairie du Chien, WI. He was born November 20, 1971, in Dubuque, IA to Raymond and Janis (Hamann) Troester. Timothy was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, McGregor. He graduated from Mar-Mac High School in 1990 and continued his education at U-W Platteville and then transferred to Upper Iowa, where he earned his BA in business. Timothy was united in marriage with Darcy Winters on March 9, 2011.

Marjorie Meyer

 

Marjorie Ann Meyer, 83, of Janesville, formerly of Elkader, died Sunday, February 22, 2015, at an adult group home in Janesville, WI.  Marjorie was born December 28, 1931, in Elkader, to Eldo and Josephine (Miller) Meyer. She attended St. Joseph’s Grade School during her early years.

Exercising was one of the hobbies that she greatly enjoyed.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
