November 19, 1924-March 7, 2026

Allan Doyle Martin, age 101, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 7, 2026, at home.

Allan was born on Nov. 19, 1924, the son of Jay and Hazel (Kaufman) Martin. He grew up on a farm just west of Bloomington on Blakes Prairie. In his early years, Allan attended Red School, a rural school just south of the family farm. He went to Bloomington High School from 1938 to 1942. He excelled in basketball, track, and especially baseball.

After graduating from high school, he attended UW-Platteville from 1942–1943. He enlisted in the Army in 1945 and was on a ship headed for Japan when Japan surrendered and the war came to an end. He was discharged from the Army in 1946 and returned to UW-Platteville where he obtained his degree in agriculture, graduating in 1949.

While in college Allan met his wife Mary Evelyn Bark. They were married on July 14, 1949. In 1950, they started farming in the Bloomington area where the family farm is now. Allan was a member of the United Methodist Church and was a member of Bloomington School board at the time the new school was being built. He was also a member of the Mason Lodge in Bloomington until the lodge closed.

Allan was a very devout Christian. He loved his Lord and tried to live as He wanted him to. Later in his life he had many health issues which he faced head on and conquered all of them! He loved talking farming and sports. In the afternoons you would always find Allan and Mary watching the Price is Right and Jeopardy.

Allan is survived by his wife Mary of 77 years; sons Doug (Kathy) Martin of Platteville and Tom (Ellen) Martin of Bloomington; his daughter Ruth and the late David Everson of Fennimore; as well as 10 grandkids and 19 great grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jay P. Martin and Hazel Martin; his sister Evelyn Radakovich; and his brother Francis “Fat” Martin.

A public visitation for family and friends will be held from 5  to 7 p.m. on Sunday May 3, 2026, at the Bloomington United Methodist Church.

A private memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 4, at the church.
