With a 50-37 River Ridge victory over host Potosi/Cassville, both teams closed out the regular season girls’ basketball schedule last Thursday night, coach Michael DiPadova’s squad with a Six Rivers conference record of 7-8, and coach Jamie Nebel’s squad at 6-9.
Claiming this year’s conference title with a record of 12-3 was Shullsburg, followed by Highland in second place at 9-6. River Ridge finished in a tie for third with Belmont, while the P/C girls were fifth ahead of Benton (1-14).
In last Thursday night’s regular-season finale, the visiting Timberwolves got a game-high 19 points from junior Erin Adrian, who also added four rebounds, three assists and four steals to her totals.
The Timberwolves also got 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds from sophomore Ava Nies, while Adayah Groom chipped in nine points, followed by Kristina Sletten and McKenzie Taylor with six each.
As a team, the Timberwolves made 18-of-50 (36 percent) total shot attempts, including 4-of-15 (26.7 percent) from 3-point range. They were 10-of-19 (52.6 percent) from the free throw line, outscored their opponent 26-22 in the paint and converted 26 P/C turnovers into 15 points.
Coach Nebel’s squad was led by Norah Post and Emma Uppena who each finished with seven points. Lillie Cooley was close behind with six points, followed by Jocelyn Adrian and Ayva Yager with four each. Manhattyn Udelhofen pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds for her team, to go along with four assists and three steals.
The P/C girls struggled from the field, where they made 17-of-61 (28 percent) shot attempts, including 2-of-15 (13 percent) from downtown. They were 1-of-2 (50 percent) from the charity stripe, and converted 19 offensive rebounds into 13 second-chance points.
