The Central boys basketball team ended the regular season on a high note, routing Postville 71-27 on Feb. 10 for their 14th win of the season and 12th in Upper Iowa Conference play.
The Warriors opened up a 28-5 first quarter lead over the Pirates and continued to pile on points in the proceeding quarters. They shot an impressive 54.7 percent from the field, including seven three-pointers.
Isaac Loan made eight of 10 shots from the field, with a pair of three-pointers, and led Central with 19 points. The senior’s stat line also included five rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Sophomore Griffen Hammersland made four of six attempts from behind the arc, for 12 of his 14 points, and was among team leaders with five rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Junior Owen Hammersland put up 10 points and seven rebounds, along with two apiece in the assist and steals columns. Senior Jake Hertrampf matched his 10 points and tallied five rebounds and four of Central’s six blocks.
The Warriors opened postseason play on Feb. 16, defeating Starmont. They will head to Bellevue on Thursday, Feb. 19, for a Class 1A - Substate 3 match-up.
