Springville flies past MFL MarMac in girls basketball regular season finale

Springville flew past MFL MarMac 65-44 in the girls basketball regular season finale on Feb. 10.

 

The Orioles, ranked fourth in Class 1A, went on a 16-9 second quarter run to close out the first half up 31-25. They continued to build on that lead in the final two frames.

 

The Bulldogs were hurt by 16 turnovers—14 coming on Springville steals—and shot 34.7 percent from the field compared to the Orioles’ 42.4 percent. Springville also landed nine three-pointers.

 

Freshman Blair Winter led MFL MarMac with 13 points and had two apiece in the assist, steal and block columns. She also grabbed three rebounds. 

 

Freshman Olivia Driscoll knocked down a pair of three-pointers for six of her eight points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

 

Senior Cora Keehner’s stat line included six points, six rebounds and two assists, while freshman Khloe Schutte chipped in nine points, three rebounds, an assist and a block off the bench.

 

MFL MarMac finished the regular season 14-7. The team won the Upper Iowa Conference big division with a record of 12-3.

 

Postseason play began Feb. 17 in Monona, in a Class 2A - Region 5 match-up against Beckman Catholic. The winner will play Friday, Feb. 20, against the victor of the Maquoketa Valley/Lisbon game.
