Rodney Allen Kuehl, 69, of St. Petersburg, Fla., passed away Sept. 11, 2025, at Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg. The family will announce a memorial service at a later date.

 

Rod was born March 17, 1956, in West Union, the son of Harvey and Shirley (Morarend) Kuehl of Elkader. He graduated from Central Community High School in 1974.

 

After graduation, he attended several universities and finished with a degree in mass communication from University of Wisconsin-Platteville. His first job was with Group W Cable in Dubuque. Rod made a career working in the audio/visual industry, spending several years in Dallas, Texas and later in Tampa, Fla. 

 

On March 8, 2012, Rod married Ellen Lopez. They shared a home together in Riverview, Fla., along with their many pets. Rod was passionate about sports as he followed the Indianapolis Colts, LSU Tigers and Boston Red Sox. He especially liked riding his bicycles on mountain trails and caring for animals. 

 

He is survived by his mother Shirley Kuehl (Elkader) and siblings Kurt, Jeff and Andrew. Along with the brothers’ spouses/partners, there are nieces and nephews who have many fond memories of Uncle Rod.

 

Rodney is preceded in death by his beloved father, Harvey, and his wife Ellen.
