Central hires Gearhart as superintendent

At a school board meeting on Sept. 9, Micah Gearhart was hired as the new interim superintendent for the Central Community School District through June 30, 2026, pending contractual release by North Fayette Valley.
Central school board members Jared Funk, Marcus Belser, Courtney Scherf, Andrew Clark, Michael Whittle and Josh Embretson voted unanimously to approve the motion. Jered Finley abstained from voting.
Multiple rounds of interviews were utilized to make a selection from several qualified applicants. School board members, staff, community members and the school improvement committee provided input thoroughout the process.
Funk, the board president, explained, “We were seeking a dynamic and student-focused educational leader with visionary leadership to advance academic excellence, strengthen community partnerships and ensure the continued success of Central students and staff.”
Gearhart attended Wartburg College, where he received a degree in elementary education. He later received his masters in education administration from Mankato State University and his superintendent endorsement from the University of Northern Iowa.
Gearhart’s most recent role was middle school principal at North Fayette Valley. He previously taught multiple elementary grades and at the middle school level, including math and life skills. Gearhart has 17 years of experience in administration, including in special education and curriculum coordinator roles.
