With a 3-1 victory over the host Miners last Tuesday evening, coach Dianne Langmeier and her River Ridge varsity volleyball team improved to 4-3 on the season and 2-0 in Six Rivers West conference action.
The Timberwolves took down the Miners in impressive fashion to start the match, winning the first set by a score of 25-15.
Momentum quickly shifted to the Miners in the second set, which the home team won, 25-18.
River Ridge then closed out the match with convincing victories of 25-17 and 25-14 in the third and fourth sets.
“The girls came out and really dominated in the first game,” explained coach Langmeier. “We then got down by five points right away in the second set and just couldn’t overcome that deficit throughout the set. The next two sets went much better for us.”
Dishing out a team-high 31 assists for the Wolves was junior setter Mallory Crubel, who also had eight kills and three blocks in the victory.
Senior Ellaina Gage put down a team-high 11 kills, followed closely by junior Erin Adrian with nine and sophomore Ava Nies with eight.
Adrian also chipped in 26 digs and five blocks, while Nies led the team at the net with seven blocks on the night.
Senior Josey Drone led the Timberwolves with 32 total digs, while junior Alaina Clark added 23.
Following this past Tuesday night’s road match at Benton, the Timberwolves will participate in Saturday’s Lancaster Invite, which begins at 8:30 a.m. Other participating schools include Black Hawk, Fennimore, Kickapoo, Potosi, Shullsburg and Viroqua.
