The Prairie du Chien Boys Soccer program began a new era with a new co-op with Wauzeka-Steuben and Youth Initiative of Viroqua when they started their schedule last Thursday, Sept. 4 at Richland Center High School. The Hornets came out strong with two goals early in the first half before senior Garrett DeHart converted a penalty kick with less than five minutes remaining in the first half to make the score 2-1 at halftime. Despite several chances in the second half, the Hawks were unable to get the game tying goal before the Hornets sealed the game with a goal late as Richland Center pulled away for a 3-1 win.
Prairie du Chien/W-S/Youth Initiative returned to action two days later when they welcomed the Coulee Christian/Providence Academy (La Crosse) co-op to John C. Mulrooney Field. Freshman October Bartelt got things started for the Hawks with a goal just 22 seconds into the match. PdC was off and running as they scored six more goals in the first half to take a 7-0 lead into halftime. Among those six goals was a hat trick by DeHart, two goals from senior Pelle Arnold and a goal from freshman Matisse Enjalbert. The Hawks got three more goals in the second half as the match ended 10-0 at the 60th minute via mercy rule. Scoring in the second half was Adrian Morales-Fuerte, Enjalbert again and Arnold with the second hat trick of the game by a Hawks player.
PrdC/Wauzeka-Steuben/Youth Initiative improved to 1-1 overall with the win. The Hawks will entertain River Valley this Thursday, Sept. 11 at 5:00 p.m.
