Run or walk in the Great River Road - Road Race (GRRRR) 5K or 10K on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Pikes Peak State Park near McGregor.

The McGregor-Marquette Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the return of the Great River Road - Road Race (GRRRR), one of their signature fundraising events, which unites runners, walkers and families from across the region. This year’s race begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, with the start and finish line located at Pikes Peak State Park near McGregor.

Participants can walk or run either the 5K or 10K route, with courses showcasing the fall beauty of the Great River Road corridor. An awards ceremony with medals for all age groups will take place immediately after the race, along with a pancake breakfast.

“This race represents everything I love about our community—the spirit of collaboration, the stunning natural landscape and our commitment to supporting local business,” said Mary Anderson, executive director of the McGregor-Marquette Chamber of Commerce and this year’s race director. “As someone passionate about having fun, I’m adding a costume contest this year. I hope some of our non-competitive runners will accept my challenge to add flair to their normal running gear. We will have a special prize ready for our best-dressed participant.”

Anderson dressed as a chicken last year to promote the traditional chicken gravy, which is served by the Turner Park Committee with the pancake breakfast. You do not need to be a GRRRR participant to enjoy the meal; the public is welcome.

A link to register can be found on the Great River Road - Road Race Facebook page or at www.mcgregmarq.com. Participants who register by Sept. 18 are guaranteed to receive a long-sleeve race shirt and enjoy the early bird registration discount.

Proceeds from the Great River Road - Road Race directly support the McGregor-Marquette Chamber of Commerce’s year-round efforts to promote local businesses, organize community events and attract visitors to the area.

The Chamber’s work helps maintain McGregor-Marquette’s position as a premier destination along the Great River Road.
