Injuries continued to mount for the MFL MarMac football team in a 47-14 loss at Clayton Ridge on Sept. 5.

The Bulldogs lost two of their top rushing threats—Tyce Wikner and Kashton Decker—in the first half and struggled to keep pace with the high-powered Eagle offense.

Clayton Ridge led 28-8 at halftime, with MFL MarMac’s lone score coming on a two-yard touchdown run and then a two-point conversion by Eli Hanson.

The senior quarterback split time at the position with freshman Easton Lange in order to give the Bulldogs some rushing depth. Hanson led MFL MarMac with 21 carries for 112 yards.

The Eagles kept scoring in the second half, capitalizing on turnovers and a depleted MFL MarMac defense and special teams. Wikner was a cornerback and Decker a safety for the Bulldog defense, which also took a hit when senior cornerback Anthony Bunting and sophomore safety Taco Thompson left the game.

Kyler Nuehring provided a spark for the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter, returning a kick-off 92 yards for a touchdown.

Clayton Ridge senior quarterback Seth Kregel racked up 296 passing yards and a touchdown on 17 of 21 attempts, while the Eagle ground game amassed 127 yards. Eighty-one of those and another two touchdowns were courtesy of Kregel. Gabe Cook carried the ball 10 times for 35 yards and three touchdowns.

The Eagle defense posted 53.5 total tackles and three fumble recoveries, while the special teams returned one kickoff for a touchdown.

Last week’s win was the first for Clayton Ridge against MFL MarMac since 2018.

The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 0-2 overall. They’ll travel to New Hampton on Friday, Sept. 12—the final non-district game of the season.
