For the Seneca-Wauzeka-Steuben Bluegolds and the Cashton Eagles, the 2025 season began a night earlier than most other teams in the state when they were one of a dozen or so games in Wisconsin to take place last Thursday night, August 21. The Eagles may have wished for another day of practice however after the visiting Bluegolds jumped out to a 19-0 lead in the first half before holding on for a 33-21 victory.

Behind the legs and arm of senior quarterback Cooper Lomas, the Bluegolds led 7-0 after one quarter and then 19-0 midway through the second quarter. The Eagles got on the scoreboard with a touchdown and two-point conversion shortly before halftime to make the score 19-8. Cashton scored again early in the third quarter to make the score 19-14 in favor of S-W-S. Two touchdowns in the third quarter pushed the score to 33-14.

The hosts added a touchdown late in the fourth quarter but it was not enough as Seneca-Wauzeka-Steuben held on for the 33-21 victory. The final score was almost identical to the final score of last year’s game in Wauzeka that the Blugolds won 31-12.

Final stats were not available as of press time but Lomas had four touchdown runs to lead S-W-S, with fellow senior Carson Sime adding another touchdown run in the win.

The Bluegolds kick off their home schedule this Friday night when they host Ithaca at Seneca High School.
