MFL MarMac boys excel in hurdle events

The MFL MarMac boys track and field team continued to rack up strong times in sprint and hurdle events last week, in meets at Decorah and North Fayette Valley.
Senior Carter Streicher won the 110-meter hurdles at the April 21 Decorah Boys Invite, then was a solid fourth in the 400-meter event. Teammates Tucker Ruff and Carter Stoddard leapt to a respective eighth and ninth in the 110 race, while Ruff was seventh in the 400 hurdles.
The three were also part of the Bulldogs’ runner-up shuttle hurdle relay that finished just behind Osage. Other relay results had MFL MarMac fourth in the sprint medley and seventh in the 4x800.
Kashton Decker led the team in the sprints, turning in a fourth-place run in the 200 and seventh in the 100. Averey Thornton placed 13th in the 100 and Rylan Schroeder was 11th in the 200.
Blake Schutte crossed the finish line 10th in both the 400 and 800. Hunter Bogdonovich was close behind him in the 400, in 12th place, while Adian Reynolds secured ninth in the 800.
Thornton was MFL MarMac’s lone field participant, placing a respective 10th and 13th in the shot put and discus.
At an April 25 meet at North Fayette Valley, Streicher collected two more individual titles in the 110- and 400-meter hurdles. Ruff raced to third in both events, while Stoddard earned fifth in the 110-meter race.
Decker ran his way to third place in the 100, placing ahead of teammate Anthony Bunting in sixth. No Bulldogs ran in the 200 at this meet.
Schutte locked in seventh in the 400, followed by Bogdonovich in 10th. Bogdonovich also finished 10th in the 800-meter run, two spots ahead of Dante Thornton. The Bulldogs’ only longer distance runner, Reynolds, placed ninth in the 1500.
More strong results came in the relays, where the Bulldogs won the sprint medley and were runners-up in the shuttle hurdle event. The 4x200 relay placed third, and the 4x400 and distance medley were both fourth.
A pair of MFL MarMac athletes finished third in the field events, with Parker Kuehl in the long jump and Carter Lightfoot in the high jump. A. Thornton launched an eighth-place throw in the shot put, then was 12th in the discus. Teammate Jaxon Millage was seventh in the latter event.
Two meets are on the schedule this week, as the Bulldogs head to Clayton Ridge May 1, then Starmont on May 2.
