Timberwolves sweep trio of games

Coach Wade Winkers and his River Ridge softball squad kicked off play in the Six Rivers conference with three straight victories last week, beating Pecatonica, Juda/Albany and Argyle/Black Hawk, all in convincing fashion.
In a 12-6 victory over visiting Pecatonica last Tuesday night, Abby Doyle, Maya Drone and Mallory Crubel had the hot bats, as the three combined for eight of their team’s 11 hits.
Doyle and Drone each went 3-for-4 at the plate, Doyle with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs, and Drone with two doubles and two runs scored.
Doyle had one RBI on a ground ball in the second inning, a one-run double in the fourth and a two-run single in the fifth.
Crubel was 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs, getting two on a single in the first inning and another on a single in the fourth.
Other big hits for the Timberwolves included an RBI single in the first by Alayna Brinkman, an RBI ground ball by Josey Drone in the third and an RBI double in the fifth by Harper Kramer.
In the pitching circle, Erin Adrian gave up six runs, five earned, off eight hits, while striking out 11 batters and walking four in a complete seven-inning performance.
On the following Thursday night, coach Wade Winkers’ Timberwolves traveled to Juda, where they handed the co-op team of Juda/Albany an 8-5 conference loss.
The Timberwolves used 11 hits to score eight runs, while taking advantage of four walks and four errors.
River Ridge scored three runs in the top of the third inning, one more in the fifth and then exploded for four in the sixth to secure the victory.
With their balanced lineup on full display, lead-off batter Josey Drone was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI single in the sixth.
Second in the lineup was Alayna Brinkman, who went 2-for-4 with one run score and an RBI single in the third, while Erin Adrian went 2-for-3 batting third in the lineup, scoring one run and brining in a team-high three RBIs on a sacrifice fly in the fifth and a two-run single in the sixth. Batting sixth in the lineup, Ellaina Gage went 3-for-4 with one run scored and an RBI single in the sixth.
In the pitching circle, Adrian struck out one batter and walked two, while giving up five runs, two of which were earned, off six hits.
Friday night saw the Timberwolves improve to 3-0 in league play and 6-1 overall with a convincing 9-2 victory over host Argyle/Black Hawk.
The visiting Timberwolves jumped out to an early lead over their opponent, scoring one run in the top of the first on at RBI single by Harper Kramer.
They then added four more runs in the top of the third, getting RBI single from Ellaina Gage and Maycee Brinkman, along with bases-loaded walks from Josey Drone and Brinkman.
In the fourth inning Winkers’ squad scored two more runs to take a commanding 7-0 lead on a two-run single by Mallory Crubel, and added two more runs in the top of the seventh on an RBI single from Erin Adrian.
While the Timberwolves pounded out eight hits in the victory, Adrian and the River Ridge defense limited their opponent to just three hits, while Adrian struck out six batters and walked two to collect the victory.
Following this past Tuesday night’s home game against Potosi/Cassville, the Timberwolves will travel to Barneveld on April 17.
