Bulldog boys repeat as UIC indoor champions

The MFL MarMac boys track and field team edged Central by four points to win the Upper Iowa Conference indoor title for the second straight year. The Bulldogs put up 112 points at the March 21 meet at Luther College, highlighted by multiple top-five performances.

 

Sophomore Kashton Decker won both the 55-yard and 200-meter dashes, while teammate Anthony Bunting was second and fourth in the respective races. Bulldogs Carter Streicher and Tucker Ruff did equally well in the 55-meter hurdles, placing first and third.

 

Eli Hanson crossed seventh in the 400, followed by Dante Thornton in 16th. Adian Reynolds claimed fourth in the 3200-meter run and 13th in the 1500.

 

MFL MarMac won three of the five relays, including the 4x200, 4x400 and shuttle hurdle. Parker Kuehl, Carter Lightfoot, Bunting and Decker made up the 4x200 squad, while Ruff and Hanson joined Decker and Lightfoot in the 4x400. The winning shuttle hurdle team was made up of Ruff, Rylee Kugel, Carter Stoddard and Streicher.

 

In the 4x800, Hunter Bogdonovich, Jaxon Millage, Rylan Schroeder and Payton Schultz combined for fifth place, and Koda Warrington, Bryce Jones, Millage and Schroeder crossed seventh in the distance medley. A second MFL MarMac team consisting of Jones, Streicher, Hanson and Warrington placed eighth in the 4x200.

 

Success continued in the field events, where Kuehl leapt to second in the high jump and third in the long jump. Lightfoot followed in third in the high jump, while Hanson launched himself to fourth in the long jump. A throw from Millage put him fourth in the shot put, while Averey Thornton finished 11th.

 

A small MFL MarMac girls team earned just two points at the UIC meet, led by a fifth-place finish for Kensey Ball in the 400. Addison Corlett turned in a solid eighth-place performance in the 55-meter hurdles.

 

Isla Henkes and Brooklyn Tonn were a respective 16th and 18th in the 55-yard dash, and Amelia Duffield and Lucille Kessler took 14th and 16th in the 200. 

 

The Bulldogs—including Ball, Corlett, Kessler and Duffield—placed 12th in the 4x200, the team’s lone relay. 

 

Henkes and Tonn were MFL MarMac’s only field athletes, finishing 15th and 16th in the shot put.
