It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Ellen Peterson, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Monday, March 17, 2025, at the Edgewood Convalescent Center. She was born Aug. 1, 1941, in Iowa City, to Walter and Margaret (Monahan) Pritchard.

 

She was united in marriage to Donald Peterson on Feb. 26, 1960, at Evansdale.Three children were born to this union. The couple later divorced.

 

Following high school, she took classes at N.I.C.C. and became a certified Med-Aide at the County Home, Scenic Acres, and other nursing homes.  

 

Barbara was always a hard worker. She loved her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking—especially Norwegian baked goods. Barbara also enjoyed sewing and making crafts with her friends. She was a long-time member of Norway Lutheran Church.

 

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ray (Cathy) Peterson, Elkader, Jay Peterson, Strawberry Point, and Kay Kluesner (Lloyd Funk), Elkader; grandchildren, Danny Bushaw, Amanda Burshaw (Chad Cole), Daric Bushaw (Kendra), Justin (Ashley) Peterson, Jason (Sydnie) Peterson, Brittany (Craig) Parzych, Amber (Andy) Kemp, Maci Kluesner and Carly Kluesner; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers and sisters, Ilo Mae Corbin, Marion (Marvin) Vansickle, Brad (Melinda) Pritchard and Rodney (Patty) Pritchard; and many nieces, nephews and friends.   

 

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jerry Peterson; granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann; siblings, Amos Pritchard, Leslie Pritchard, Lyle Pritchard, Richard Pritchard, Alfred Pritchard, Gary Pritchard and Robert Pritchard; and ex-husband, Donald Peterson.

 

Visitation was held on March 20, at Norway Lutheran Church, rural St. Olaf. Funeral services were March 21. Rev. Marshall Hahn officiated.

 

Interment followed at Norway Lutheran Cemetery, rural St. Olaf.

 

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elkader is assisting the family.
