This past November dedicated caregivers were honored during National Family Caregivers month.
Caregivers play a crucial role in our communities offering physical, emotional and sometimes financial support to dependent loved ones. Their compassionate care ensures adequate support so others can lead fulfilling lives.
Often caregivers manage an array of responsibilities such as assistance with bathing, dressing, coordinating medical appointments, and managing medications. These duties are often juggled with their own personal and professional responsibilities causing significant stress.
The constant demands can lead to feeling of isolation, anxiety, depression, and a significant loss in income if the caregiver needs to reduce their working hours.
It is important to consider ways to offer support. Simple gestures such as helping with errands, providing a safe space to express concerns, and giving them a break in duties can make a significant difference.
Additionally, advocating for policies and procedures that support caregivers, such as paid family leave and funding for supportive programs, can alleviate stress placed on caregivers.
