Donald Quentin Dunbar, Jr., 81, of Volga, passed away Friday, Nov. 22, 2024, at MercyOne in Elkader.

 

He was born Aug. 22, 1943 in Beverly, Mass., to Donald and Rita M. (Beaulieu) Dunbar Sr.

 

Donald was united in marriage to Hazle Overton on Dec. 10, 1965. They became the parents of two sons, Matthew and Terry.

 

He earned his associates degree. Donald served in the United States Air Force. Don served as a post master for the United States Postal Service. He enjoyed fishing, was a member of the Volga Fire Department, Volga City Council, did volunteer work at Osborne and, in 2010, was named an Iowa Volunteer of the Year.

 

Donald is survived by his wife, Hazle, of Volga; son, Matthew Q. Dunbar, of Indiana; three grandchildren; and sister, Judith Dihl.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and son Terry Dunbar.

 

Visitation was Nov. 29, at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Elkader. Funeral services were Nov. 30, at Calvary Bible Church in Volga with Pastor Isaac Gilana officiating. Interment with military honors was at Hillcrest Cemetery, Volga.

 

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elkader is assisting the family.
