Central runners leave Jesup Invitational with improved times

The Central cross country team ran in the Jesup Invitational on Oct. 1, and every runner had either a career, season or course best time across a hard, dry and extremely flat course at the Jesup Golf and Country Club.
The meet was filled with tough competition, with over 30 teams and over 500 runners at the high school level. Central pulled off a second place team finish in the JV girls race with an overall score of 88. Blair Scherf finished fourth with a career best time of 22:53.8, followed by Coral Rork in 16th with a course best time of 24:08.3.
Alexis Thiese also put in a career best with a 24:39.07, to finish 22nd, and Hannah Friedlein was 32nd with a career best time of 25:10.8. Aspen Rork finished 54th, Layla Embretson 60th, Lily Becwar 71st, Mya Gregerson 81st and Brooke Tieden 107th.
The Warriors sent out two runners for the varsity boys 5K, with Gavin Holst finishing 26th in a career best time of 17:25.3, followed by Jesse Polkinghorn in 62nd.
In the JV boys race, Central placed fifth as a team, with the top runner, Henry Reimer, crossing in 11th. He was followed by Tyce Zittergruen in 18th, Declan Finley 22nd, Vaughn Zittergruen 28th, Michael White 35th, Bryce Heller 38th, Carter Kruger 80th, Breckon Holst 85th and Griffin Koehn 98th.
This week, Central ran in the South Winneshiek Invitational at the Calmar golf course on Oct. 8.
