The Wauzeka-Steuben Cross Country team attended Boscobel’s Ryan Zimpel Memorial Invitational last Tuesday, September 10 and came away with a pair of top-10 team finishes. The Hornet boys placed ninth out of 17 teams with 220 points while the Hornet girls were fifth out of 17 teams with 148 points.
The Hornet boys were led individually by Brett Wagner in ninth place (18:06), Cody Wagner in 43rd (20:07), Josh Martin in 55th (21:15), Nolan Reed-Mullikin in 56th (21:25), Parker McCullick in 57th (21:28), Andrew Mezera in 73rd (23:40) and Stetson Zeeh in 81st (31:16).
Isabella Bunders placed 16th in a time of 23:50 to lead the W-S girls team. She was followed by Alayna Martin in 28th (25:40), Emma Udelhoven in 33rd (26:15), Mallory McCullick in 34th (26:17), Ellah Jones in 37th (26:58), Leah Peralta in 39th (27:08) and Ali Jelinek in 41st (27:46).
The Hornets traveled to Spring Green four days later to participate in the annual River Valley Blackhawk Invitational. The boys team placed 14th out of 18 teams in the Small Schools Division with 302 points, while the girls team was 12th out of 16 teams in the Small Schools Division with 304 points.
B. Wagner finished in 14th place (18:18) to pace the Hornet boys. He was followed by Reed-Mullikin in 56th (20:02), C. Wagner in 67th (20:32), J. Martin in 71st (20:38), P. McCullick in 103rd (22:31), Mezera in 106th (22:53) and Zeeh in 124th (34:58).
On the girls side, it was Bunders in 50th (24:11) to lead the way. Finishing behind her in the race was A. Martin in 63rd (25:13), Jones in 70th (25:41), M. McCullick in 76th (26:52), Jelinek in 85th (28:10) and Peralta in 90th (28:33).
The Hornet runners will next compete this Thursday, September 19 ,at the Boscobel Night Run.
