Timberwolves run at Darlington

The 2024 prep cross country season kicked off for area teams this past Saturday at the Darlington Invitational, where the Fennimore boys and Lancaster girls each collected team titles on a perfect late summer morning.
As the perennial favorite to contend for another state title, this year in division 2, the Lancaster Flying Arrows had four members of their girls team finish among the top 10 in a field of 95 runners.
The Arrows finished with a team score of 41 to claim the team title on Saturday, finishing 19 points ahead of the second-place team from Darlington.
Coach Shane Sperle’s River Ridge girls finished seventh of 14 competing teams, and were led by sophomore Leah Patterson, who placed 10th overall with a time of 21:35.8.
She was followed by freshman teammate Eden Thornton (25:37.6), sophomore Kristina Sletten (25:48.0), sophomore McKenzie Taylor (27:03.3) and senior Lydia Mason (27:09.8).
On the boys side, Fennimore captured the team title with a score of 99, finishing 28 points ahead of the second-place team from Albany. The River Ridge boys placed 14th of 15 competing schools with a team score of 298.
Leading the Timberwolves was senior Luke Patterson, who finished 15th of 109 total competitors with a time of 19:01.8. He was followed by senior teammate Colton Moris (20:47.4), senior Wyatt Bausch (21:30.7), junior Luke Breuer (22:36.5) and junior Colton Kirschbaum 23:16.1).
Following this past Tuesday evenings meet at Boscobel, the Timberwolves will next compete at Spring Green on Saturday.
