Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging (NEI3A)   is on a mission to help older individuals and their families respond to their evolving needs, and have access to support that empowers them to live with choice and dignity in their communities. 

Programs and services 

NEI3A serves individuals ages 60 or older, 18 or older with disabilities, and caregivers. Their programs and services include: 

• Information and Assistance - LifeLong Links is a statewide Aging and Disability Resource Center, serving as the primary access point for individuals ages 60 or over, individuals 18 or older with disabilities, and caregivers seeking information about services, referrals, vaccines, and assistance for long-term independent care. 

• Family Caregiver Program - Supporting those who provide care for anyone ages 60 or older with information and resources, individual counseling, and support groups. 

• Service Coordination - Whether a person requires short-term care through Options Counseling or long-term care through Case Management, NEI3A programs are designed to help individuals plan and implement support services, ensuring their safety and independence at home. NEI3A provides comprehensive assistance, including in-home assessments, application assistance, educational resources, and ongoing support. 

• Iowa Return to Community (IRTC) - IRTC is a collaborative partnership between NEI3A and local hospitals, long-term care facilities, and medical clinics to support individuals in successfully transitioning from a hospital or rehabilitation stay back to their homes and communities. 

• Elder Abuse Prevention & Awareness - Providing resources, information, and proactive solutions for individuals and families concerned about their safety and well-being. 

• Nutrition Program - Offering nutritionally balanced meals served either in social congregate setting at senior centers of Iowa Cafe locations or delivered to the home for those who are homebound. Individual nutrition counseling and group nutrition education are also offered. 

• Health & Wellness - providing consumers with information and opportunities to delay the onset of chronic diseases, prevent falls, and improve nutrition. 

• Transportation - Offering transportation assistance to eligible individuals who are unable to fulfill their own transportation requirements for essential purposes like medical appointments and shopping. 

• Dementia Friendly Iowa - Supporting communities where people with dementia can live and thrive. Through the Dementia Friends and Dementia Friendly Community initiatives, Dementia Friendly Iowa promotes change and education in communities to create more welcoming, safe, and respectful spaces for people living with dementia and their caregivers.
