Art in the Park celebrates 10th year
Art in the Park Fine Art Festival will celebrate its 10th anniversary in Founders’ Park, Elkader, this weekend. The festival will take place Saturday, Aug. 17, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and offers free admission and parking.
Art in the Park is a juried fine art festival and features over 50 artists from across the region. Artwork will be for sale in multiple media, from painting, photography, sculpture, metal, wood and fiber to jewelry, ceramics, printmaking and more. There is something for everyone.
In addition to the artist tents, which will wind along the accessible sidewalk, there will also be wine tasting, a beer tent, kids creation area and live music on the main stage, along with music on the south end of the park, too. This year will also have a wellness area, and organizers welcome back the Abdelkader Sculpture with historic vignettes throughout the festival weekend.
New for 2024, the event will host its first emerging artist tent organized by and exhibiting artwork by local student artists from Central Community School.
The 10th anniversary weekend officially kicks off on Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. with a free pilates/yoga class led by Elkader’s own Inhale Exhale Studio near the music pavilion. A Sunday morning sound bath at 10 a.m. will be offered by High Street Healing Arts Center and Choose You near the wellness area. If you have never experienced one of these, this is your chance to feel connected, energized and be inspired.
In addition to all the sights and experiences throughout the festival weekend, plan to enjoy an ice cream and delicious food from vendors and soak in the sounds of local musicians. The full schedule of events can be found at www.ArtintheParkElkader.com, including the headlining band, Weary Ramblers, on Saturday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the main stage.
Art in the Park is made possible through the support of the community. Organizers are grateful to provide an award winning cultural event for northeast Iowa residents along with a growing awareness for the beauty and talents the Driftless Region boasts for visitors from all over the Midwest.
Main Street Elkader and The Art in the Park Fine Art Festival Committee appreciate the city of Elkader, the generous sponsors, numerous volunteers and artists who help bring this event to life every year during the third weekend in August. Special recognition goes to 10th anniversary main event sponsor Julie Doeppke – American Family Insurance Agent – Elkader, IA.
