Brooklyn “Brook” Marie Scherf, age 41, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at University of Iowa Hospital.

Brook was born Feb. 18, 1983, in Elkader, to William Robert Scherf III and Michelle Marie (French) Scherf. Following high school, she lived in Dubuque, under the care of Hills and Dales, who were considered to be her second family. She worked at a variety of companies and had recently started her new job at Captured on Canvas. Brook was excited about working there.

She loved shopping, holidays and decorating for those holidays, cooking, playing games on her iPad, romance movies and even more so than romance movies she loved watching the shows COPS, Unsolved Mysteries and The Weather Channel. She was always concerned about the weather, and tried to warn anyone around her if she thought they might be getting any storms. She was thought of as being a regular girly girl because she loved shopping, getting her nails and hair done and all dressed up for parties or other social events. Brook also loved to dance. When she was able, Brook loved to travel. She also enjoyed watching birds and helping with flowers. She enjoyed being around animals and wanted to work with them, especially kittens and puppies. Brook was a very kind and caring young lady who was always trying to help others—she was a people pleaser. She especially enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephew, family and friends.

Left to cherish her memories are her parents, William and Michelle; her brother, William (Erin) Scherf IV; nieces, Kahlei and Alyssa Schmitt and Scarlett and Vivian Scherf; nephew, William (Liam) Scherf V; her paternal grandfather, William R. Scherf, Jr.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Floyd A. and Alberta Lee (Geno) French, and paternal grandmother, Lafonda Joy (Gerloff) Scherf.

Visitation was held on Monday, July 1, at St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2, at St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg, with Vicar Jeremy Wolfe officiating.

Interment will follow at Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery, Farmersburg.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elkader is assisting the family.
