March 15, 1947–May 27, 2024

David Lee Stovey, 77 of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin passed away Monday, May 27, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. David was born March 15, 1947 to Alfred and Jean (Grimm) Stovey in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He attended North Crawford High School. David proudly served in the United States Army.

In his younger years, David played softball and was known as the “Homerun King”. After he was finished playing ball, David became an umpire for several years. On February 20, 1971, David was united in marriage with Nancy Bina. Two children were born to this union. He was a hard worker and was employed as a Carpenter for Design Homes for forty-six years. David enjoyed taking fishing trips with his son, Rob and watching sports. He loved gardening and being a grandpa. David was a quiet and humble man, but when he spoke it mattered.

Surviving David are his wife, Nancy Stovey of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; children, Robert (Lisa) Stovey of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin and Susan Poloncak of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; his grandchildren, Katie and Lucas Poloncak of Chandlier, Arizona; five sisters and four brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Jean Stovey; and his brother, Donald Stovey.

A Celebration of Life Service with Military Honors was held at noon with a visitation from 11:30 a.m. to time of service on Friday, May 31, 2024 at the United Methodist Church in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, with Pastor Zach Bloom as the officiant.

Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin is assisting the family with arrangements.
