Royals win at Wonewoc-Center, fall to Ithaca 4-1

The fifth seed Seneca Royals traveled to Wonewoc last Wednesday for a D5 Regional Semifinal game against the fourth seed Wonewoc-Center Wolves and came away with a 7-3 victory.

 The Wolves broke a scoreless tie with one run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 1-0 before Seneca erupted for four runs in the top of the sixth inning to go ahead 4-1.

Wonewoc-Center responded with two runs in their half of the sixth inning to make it 4-3. The Royals added three insurances runs in the seventh inning to make the score 7-3 before keeping Wonewoc-Center scoreless in the bottom half of the inning to earn the win.

Raya Wallin lead the Royals offense with a 3-for-4 showing at the plate with a triple and four RBIs. Also having big games at the plate for Seneca were Brittany Heisz (2-for-3 with one run and one walk) and Ava Sime (1-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, one walk and two RBIs).

Brigid Hall earned the win by allowing just three runs on eight hits and three walks with six strikeouts in seven innings pitched.

The victory advanced the Royals into a regional final showdown at conference rival Ithaca the following night.

The hosts quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first lead and one more in the third to go up 4-0. The Royals managed to push a run across in the sixth inning but we unable to get any closer as they fell to Bulldogs 4-1.

Ithaca pitching limited the Royals to one run on just three hits and two walks. Leading the way for the Seneca offense was Kylie Stluka (1-for-2 with one walk and one RBI), Emma Manning (1-for-2 with one run), Addison Davidson (1-for-3) and Wallin (0-for-2 with one walk).

Hall (four runs allowed on 10 hits and two walks with six strikeouts in six innings pitched) took the pitching loss.

The Royals end the season with a 10-12 record and will graduate two seniors in McKenzie Sime and Kylie Stluka.
