September 10, 1938–May 22, 2024

Shirley May Hanson, beloved sister and aunt began her eternal life with God on May 22, 2024, Shirley was 85 years old at the time of her passing.

Shirley was formally from De Soto and currently resided at Thornton Manor in Lansing, Iowa.

Shirley was born Sept. 10, 1938, to Stanley and Irene (Milarczyk) Wysopal at Douglas Park Hospital in Chicago, Ill.

She worked at Alden’s in Chicago where she met and married Robert Hanson.  They later moved and farmed on Freeman Road near Gays Mills for many years.  They later divorced.

Shirley later worked at Northern Engraving until its closing, then at Thornton Manor Nursing & Care Center both in Lansing, Iowa and later for Royal Bank in Ferryville and De Soto until her retirement.

Shirley truly enjoyed being together with family or friends, holidays especially were special for her throughout her life.  She always loved gardening, feeding her birds or squirrels at her home along with fishing, especially with her nephews Jason and Brian Pelock on the Mississippi and the time she spent with all of her many pets she had over her life time, even the pet runt pig she raised in their farm home on Freeman Road that in the end wasn’t such a runt when it grew up (but was house broke to do its duties outside).

Shirley had a wonderful sense of humor that always had the family laughing. She will be truly missed.

She is survived by her brother Joseph Gacek of Brewton, Alabama, sister Catherine (Dennis) Pelock of Eastman, Wisconsin along with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews that she treasured so much in her life.

She is preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, her former husband Robert, sisters Mary Ann (Joseph) Tontlewitz, Betty (Eugene) Hutchcraft and Darlene (Thomas) Stepanek.

A Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Eastman, with Reverend Thomas Huff officiating and burial in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family with the arrangements.  www.garrityfuneralhome.com.
