Central girls 1-1, boys 0-2 on the golf course

The Central golf teams had two meets last week, starting with a co-ed match-up with Clayton Ridge at the Elkader Golf and Country Club on April 29.
The boys finished the meet with a team score of 191, 21 strokes behind Clayton Ridge. Owen Hammersland was Central’s highest placing golfer, shooting a 44 to finish fourth. Marcus Evans shot a 46 to finish fifth, while Caden Fette hit the clubhouse in seventh after carding a 49. Isaac Loan finished eighth after shooting a 52, Kale Doeppke was 9th with a 54 and Jack Scherf placed 12th with a 61.
The girls shot 230 as a team, which was 18 strokes better than Clayton Ridge, giving the Warriors the team victory. Tessa Sylvester was the individual runner-up with a 51, just three strokes behind meet winner Kaci Kregel. Coming in third was Makayla Erickson with a 56 and Gracie Kennicker shot a 61 for fourth place. Katie Royer and Caitlyn Druecker both shot a 62 for sixth and seventh, and Peyton Finley was eighth after shooting a 63.
The second meet of the week was at the Silver Springs Golf Club in Ossian against South Winneshiek. The boys lost 165-208, with South Winneshiek taking the top six spots individually as well. Hammersland was the highest placing Warrior, earning seventh after scoring a 47. Loan followed in eighth with a 53, Fette in ninth, also finishing with a 53, and Max Fettkether was 10th with a 55. Scherf and Jake Hertrampf both put together rounds of 60 to finish 11th and 12th, respectively.
The girls were also defeated, with South Winn earning a team score of 214 to Central’s 235. Sylvester managed to finish third with a 52 and Erickson was fifth with a round of 55. Royer finished seventh after shooting a 58 and Kennicker was 10th with a 70.
The boys headed to the Guttenberg Golf & Country Club for the conference meet on May 6. They will be back on the course May 8, for sectionals in Ossian.
The girls began the week May 7, for the Upper Iowa Conference meet at the Big Rock Country Club. On Friday, May 10, they will travel to the Lone Pine Country Club in Colesburg for regionals.
