Able to get big hits when they needed them, coach Andrew Redman’s Timberwolves scored a timely 8-6 victory over visiting Potosi/Cassville last Tuesday evening in Six Rivers conference baseball action.

The win improved coach Redman’s squad to a conference record of 2-2, while the Chieftains fell to 1-2 in league play.

Leading the Timberwolves at the plate was junior shortstop Carter Copsey, who went 2-for-5 with three RBIs, while sophomore catcher Brandon Davis was 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI, followed by freshman second-baseman Cael Koenig who was 2-for-4 with one run scored.

Copsey had a two-run single in the fifth inning to score Peyton Aulwes and Davis, as well as a one-run single in the sixth to score Andrew Nies.

Davis had a lead-off single in the second inning and an RBI single in the third, while Koenig had a single in the first and a double in the third.

Freshman Braden Skaife had two RBIs in the win on a bases-loaded walk in the third and a single in the sixth, while Blake Reynolds had an RBI on a fielder’s choice in the third, and Nies an RBI on a single in the sixth.

Copsey picked up the victory on the mound in relief of Reynolds, who pitched the first four innings.

In the final three innings, Copsey gave up two runs, one earned, off three hits, while striking out two batters and walking none. Reynolds gave up four runs, two earned, off five hits, while striking out nine batters and walking none.

Two nights later the Timberwolves scored a 4-2 non-conference victory over host Iowa-Grant, as Copsey accounted for two of his team’s seven hits.

Picking up two RBIs in the contest was Aulwes on a two-run double in the top of the first inning, while Ty Adrian had a sacrifice fly in the fifth, followed by an RBI single by Reynolds.

Koenig collected the victory on the mound after limiting the Panthers to two earned runs off four hits in five innings of work. He also struck out two batters and walked six before being replaced by Copsey to start the sixth.

In his two innings on the mound Copsey gave up no runs off one hit, while striking out no batters and walking one.

Following this past Monday night’s home game against Highland, and Tuesday night’s road game at Shullsburg/Benton, the Timberwolves will travel to Albany Thursday night for a make-up game. The Timberwolves will then host Barneveld Friday night.
