The Prairie du Chien Blackhawks defeated the Dodgeville Dodgers 1-0 in a Southwest Conference game in Dodgeville on Tuesday, April 9.
PdC scored all the runs they needed in the third inning. Drake Ingham started the inning off with a single and later scored from third on a hard-hit ball from Bryce Lenzendorf that the Dodgeville defense couldn’t handle.
Logan Kiesau was the star for the Blackhawks on the hill, with seven innings of shutout ball. Kiesau kept the Dodgers off balance all game long as he allowed only one hit and two walks while striking out seven batters.
The Hawks returned home on Friday afternoon to host rival Platteville in a conference showdown.
The Hillmen came out of the gates strong as they scored two quick runs in the top of the first. The Hawks cut into their deficit with one run in the bottom of the third before Platteville regained their two run advantage with a run in the top of the fourth.
Prairie finally got things going offensively in the bottom of the fifth when they scored three runs to take a 4-3 lead. Both teams were shut out in the sixth as the Hawks took their lead into the seventh with a chance to earn the win.
Platteville would not allow that to happen however as the Hillmen had a three-run inning of their own to retake the lead and send the game to bottom of seventh with a 6-4 score. The Hawks would score a run and get a tying and game winning runs on second and third base with only one out before the Hillmen struck out the next two Hawks to earn the win.
Prairie du Chien wrapped up the week the following morning when they welcomed Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau to town for a non-conference contest. The Hawks scored one run in the bottom of the second inning before a pitching dual between both teams ensued for the next two and a half innings before the Hawks added four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 5-0, which ended up being the final score.
The Hawks were lead on the mound by Bryce Lenzendorf’s gem, as he allowed just two hits, one walk and one hit batter while striking out three in a complete game shutout.
Prairie du Chien improved to 4-1 with the win. The Hawks traveled to Lancaster on Tuesday afternoon before hosting Viroqua in a non-conference showdown on Thursday before finishing the week by traveling to Richland Center on Friday.
