River Ridge baseball handcuffed by Seneca
By A.J. Gates
Coach Andrew Redman and his River Ridge varsity baseball team opened up the 2024 season last Friday night against a very strong Seneca squad led by junior pitcher Jack Gallagher.
Gallagher pitched all seven innings for the Royals and was untouched by the Timberwolves, striking out 13 batters and walking one. He picked up his first no-hitter of the season in a 6-0 shutout victory.
River Ridge’s only two base runners in the game were junior Peyton Aulwes, who was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the third, and senior Brady Bunge, who drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the sixth.
Junior Carter Copsey, took the loss. He allowed four runs, three earned, off six hits in the final 3.1 innings. He also struck out three batters and walked three before being replaced in the fourth by freshman Blake Reynolds.
In 3.2 innings of work, Reynolds allowed two runs, one earned, off four hits, while also striking out three batters and walking three.
The Timberwolves have had their first three games of the season postponed due to rainy/snowy weather, with no make-up dates scheduled as of yet for their April 1 home game against Wauzeka-Steuben and their April 2 road game at Lancaster. Their April 4 home game against Fennimore has been rescheduled for this Thursday.
