PdC Baseball rallies past East Dubuque
By Derick Kelly
Coming off an 11 day break since their season opening win at Fennimore, the Prairie du Chien Baseball team had some rust to shake off Monday night against the East Dubuque Warriors.
The Warriors quickly got to work in the top of the first inning when they pushed one run across thanks to a single with one out. East Dubuque proceeded to load the bases with only one out, but Prairie starting pitcher Abe Amundson struck out the next two batters to leave the bases loaded.
The Hawks quickly answered in the bottom half of the inning by scoring one run thanks to a single, a walk and a wild pitch.
Amundson retired the Warriors in the top of the second before the Hawks scored five runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 6-1 lead. The Hawks added three more runs in the bottom of the third inning and one in the fourth inning to take a 10-1 lead into the fifth inning.
East Dubuque tried to claw their way back into the game by scoring a combined four runs in the fifth and seventh innings before the Hawks closed out the 10-5 victory for their second win of the season. The Warriors fell to 6-3 on the year.
Amundson earned the win after allowing just three earned runs on five hits and three walks with six strikeouts in four innings pitched. Noah Pedretti paced the Hawks offense by going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBIs and one walk. Also collecting multiple RBIs for the Hawks were Bryce Lenzendorf and Logan Kiesau (two each) while Keagan Dull and Drake Ingham each added one RBI.
Following Prairie du Chien’s game at Dodgeville on Tuesday evening, the Hawks return home on Friday to host Platteville at 5:00 p.m. and Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau in a non-conference contest on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
